The VCU College Health nurse provides high-quality evidence-based healthcare and health education to students in a university setting. This role supports student well-being by addressing acute and chronic health concerns, promoting preventive care, and collaborating with campus partners to foster a safe and healthy learning environment.

Typical Duties

• Provides direct patient care that is holistic and within the registered nurse scope of practice on an ongoing basis in a fast-paced environment. This includes assessment, treatment, and follow-up for illnesses, injuries, and chronic conditions.

• Responsibilities are divided between both the Monroe Park and the MCV campuses.

• Additional duties as assigned may include monitoring expiration dates, AED, emergency drug box, stocking supplies, linen, abnormal pap follow up, urgent patient referrals to specialists, etc. based on current need.

• Administer immunizations, medications, and treatments according to standing orders and provider directives.

-Assesses and assists with data entry of new student immunizations records in a timely manner. -Promotes a positive work environment through teamwork and collaboration with coworkers to meet the needs of the organization and patient through active participation in process changes, team meetings and work attendance.

• Participates in a minimum of 6 in-services offered by Student Health to stay abreast of new treatments and processes in the healthcare industry.

Skills

• Experience in outpatient or ambulatory care settings.

• Ability to function independently in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate initiative.

• Educate students on preventive health practices, lifestyle management, sexual health, mental health, substance use, and other wellness roles.

• Support crisis intervention, including triaging urgent health concerns and coordinating

emergency response when necessary.

• Ability to work with diverse student populations and collaborate across disciplines.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

• BLS for Healthcare Providers is required.

• Current skills for health assessment, wound care, ECGs and IV infusion required.

• Laboratory skills required: phlebotomy and knowledge of basic laboratory principles.

• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

• Registered Nurse training: BSN preferred

• Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia, unrestricted as a Registered Nurse, CPR BLS

• Knowledge of College Health, Women’s Health and/or Public Health, Adolescent Medicine, and Immunizations.

• Computer skills and prior use of an Electronic Health records system.

Salary Range:$66,000 - $68,000
