Registered Nurse (RN)-Med/Surg 7B

Responsibilities/Job Description:
Fairview is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for our Med/Surg 7B unit at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN.

Schedule: This position will be working 0.7 FTE (56 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 8 hours on both the day and evening shifts. This position will also work every other weekend rotation.

About 7B: This 22-bed unit provides care for adult patients undergoing Thoracic Surgery, Urology Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, General Surgery, and those with Cystic Fibrosis or General Medicine needs.

Patient Ratios: Day shift 3-4 patients, evening shift 3-4 patients, night shift 4-5 patients

New Grad Residency: The Nurse Residency Program is designed to bridge the gap between academia and real-world clinical practice as new grad/novice nurses make transition from nursing school to hospital nursing practice. This program offers an organized, structured, and practice-based learning environment that helps newly graduated nurses’ transition smoothly into the dynamic and fast-paced world of healthcare. This program is a testament to our commitment to fostering the growth and development of our nursing team by providing an environment where new nurses can learn and supplementing the work that our nurse preceptors do with new orientees.

What to Expect:
  • Structured Learning: Nurse residents will engage in a structured curriculum as part of program (8 hours of learning every 2 months for 12 months) that covers essential skills like time management, interprofessional teaming, communication, wellbeing, social determinants of health, critical thinking, and more! This program aims to deliver a confident, competent graduating cohort.
  • Mentorship: Each resident will encounter several mentorship opportunities throughout the program to claim the guidance, support, and valuable insights needed to thrive.
  • Networking: Residents can connect with their peers, build relationships, and collaborate on practice-based learning opportunities.
  • Hands-On Experience: The program includes hands-on clinical experiences to help nurses apply their knowledge in real healthcare scenarios; we are piloting virtual reality as a formative learning experience!
The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.

Responsibilities:
  • Assesses patient needs and identifies expected nursing outcomes.
  • Collaborates with patient, family and other health team members to develop a nursing plan as part of an integrated, comprehensive plan of care
  • Develops an individualized plan based on age, social and cultural considerations, condition and other relevant needs.
  • Evaluates care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively and respectfully with the patient, family and members of the health care team within and across care settings to promote partnership-based health care
  • Demonstrates the ability to advance care by utilizing standards, guidelines, care pathways and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Promotes a culture of evidence based practice (EBP)
Required Qualifications:
  • MN Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing
  • 1 year of experience

Qualifications:
$42.96- $72.75 Hourly
Overview:

It is the flagship facility of Fairview providing breakthrough medicine and transforming the health of our community.

The RN on the 30 bed Med/Surg unit will provide care to adult patients with complex medical/surgical conditions which require close observation, monitoring and interventions, teaching and discharge planning. Some conditions include: Adult CF, Bariatric Surgery, GI surgery, thoracic surgery, urology, trauma and general medicine. The RN will perform advanced monitoring using current technology, manages complex medication and infusion therapies while caring for patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures/interventions on the unit. They will need to successfully communicate with a care team that includes many different professionals and students. In addition, they will need to demonstrate the ability to safely and accurately operate unit equipment.
