Regular Part-time – (.50 FTE)

The Wehrheim School of Nursing in the College of Science of Technology is accepting applications for a Regular Part-Time Instructor (.50 FTE) to facilitate the learning process in higher education for individuals in pursuit of undergraduate and graduate nursing degrees and certifications through teaching, advising, and mentoring of students; assist with program accreditation; providing service outside the classroom for the University, the community and the PA State System of Higher Education; and advancing knowledge through research and other scholarly activities. Faculty teach in the online and face-to-face RN-BSN, MSN, and DNP programs, with particular emphasis on the Family Nurse Practitioner program. Courses may be taught days, evenings and/or weekends in various modalities (face-to-face or on-line) at Millersville University, online, and possible other off-campus locations. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs.
Details of the regular part-time (RPT) faculty positions are provided in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (2023-2027 CBA, Article 44, Regular Part-time Faculty). Regular part-time faculty members in the Wehrheim School of Nursing have the same roles and responsibilities of regular faculty members, pro-rated to the proportion of their workload, this includes attending meetings and engaging in other department, college, and university activities. In addition, regular part-time faculty within the Wehrheim School of Nursing will participate in activities related to academic advisement and maintaining accreditation; these activities may include but are not limited to, advising nursing undergraduate and/or graduate students, assisting in data collection, assisting in preparation of self-study and associated documentation, and participating in accreditation site visits. The position is being offered at the (.50 FTE) level, which guarantees a minimum of 6 load hours of instruction in both the Fall and Spring semesters (half-time), but there will likely be opportunities to teach beyond minimums in Fall/Spring terms, as well as opportunities to teach during the the Summer and Winter terms.

Duties and Responsibilities
TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Effectively teach students both in assigned courses and outside-the-classroom settings (e.g., student research, service learning, etc.), advise students, and carry out other assigned professional responsibilities in support of student learning and success. Regular part-time faculty must hold office hours in accordance with the number of credits assigned, as per the CBA.

CONTINUING SCHOLARLY GROWTH AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT and SERVICE TO THE UNIVERSITY AND/OR COMMUNITY:
In addition to teaching, there is an expectation for scholarship and service commensurate with the assignment. Regular part-time faculty are encouraged to engage in scholarly growth.

Provide service on an ongoing basis by contributing professionally to department and university governance outside the classroom for the university, professional community, and community at large, in a participatory, developmental, or advisory capacity.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
May include but is not limited to: Supervise student clinical experiences / interns / co-ops / independent studies / individualized instructions / dissertations. Student experiences are supervised in area schools, hospitals, clinics. Maintain currency in APN practice; actively participate in making FNP clinical placements, which includes acquiring additional FNP preceptors; supervise FNP students; and collaborate with preceptors in graduate clinical courses. Participate in recruitment events and activities. Other reasonable duties assigned within the faculty member’s field of competence.
PERFORMANCE REVIEW / EVALUATIONS:
During the first five years of service, regular part-time faculty are evaluated annually and subject to renewal or non-renewal. After five consecutive years of service, regular part-time faculty are evaluated every third year. The major emphasis of the performance review shall be on effective teaching and service. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
The Wehrheim School of Nursing, in the College of Science and Technology, is comprised of eight full-time faculty members, two regular part-time faculty members, two support staff, and over 600 undergraduate and graduate students. The department has CNEA-accredited RN-BSN, MSN (FNP, Nursing Education, Nursing Leadership, Nursing Informatics, & School Nursing options), and DNP programs.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Prior teaching experience at college/university level.
  • Currently holds RN in PA (or be eligible for).
  • CRNP-FNP (family nurse practitioner).
  • National certification as an FNP (ANCC or AANP).
  • Evidence of:
    • Commitment to publication, research and clinical practice.
    • Excellence in teaching (as documented by at least two letters of recommendation) and communication skills.
    • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
    • Commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Successful interview and teaching demonstration.
  • Successful completion of three background clearances.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned doctoral degree in Nursing or closely related field.

  • Able to record and calculate grades, prepare course outline and syllabus, develop course and lesson plans, engage in the selection of appropriate textbooks and other teaching aids necessary to the delivery of instruction.
  • Use computer for email, obtain information on websites, prepare class documents, grade papers, submit final grades online and other duties related to teaching and advising students and serving the department, college, university and community.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risks.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
