Regulatory Affairs – Summer Internship Job Description
Position Overview:
As an intern for the Municipal District Services (MDS) Regulatory Affairs Department, you will support MDS operated public water systems in complying with the EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule (LCR). The LCR requires all public water systems to collect lead and copper samples according to compliance schedules set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). This internship is a great opportunity to gain experience with project management, analyzing laboratory results, and environmental communication. This role will be based in the MDS Katy Office. An ideal candidate is a focused, detail-oriented person with a will to learn about the industry, thrives on new challenges and easily adjusts to unexpected changes.
Responsibilities:
· Monitor the lead and copper sampling compliance schedules for public water systems
· Keep stock of sampling materials needed for sampling
· Track the progress of sampling and ensure samples are submitted to the laboratory in a timely manner
· Review incoming lead and copper samples to ensure they meet laboratory requirements for processing
· Coordinate with laboratory staff to arrange for the pickup of samples or delivery of supplies to the MDS Katy Office
· Review, save, and enter incoming laboratory results
· Assist with the preparation of lead and copper results to be mailed to customers
Required Skills:
· Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as customer service skills
· Must be able to easily and professionally interact with customers
· Follow instructions precisely and communicate with Regulatory Affairs staff as directed
· Ability to learn and effectively navigate processes using the software and databases used within the Regulatory department
· Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point)
Education Requirements:
· You must be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Public Health, Environmental Engineering, Public Administration or other related fields
· Completed at least 60 credit hours
· Ability to be part-time at the end of May 2025, exact dates will be flexible
Job Types: Full-time, Temporary
Pay: $17.00 per hour
