REMOTE - Trauma Registrar - Level 1 Trauma Center on Oahu (Full Time, 40, Day)

RESPONSIBILITIES

Effective Date: 10/25

I. JOB SUMMARY:
  • Accurately abstracts, codes, inputs and submits data on trauma patients receiving care.
  • In collaboration with other members of the healthcare team, compiles and evaluates data using statistical methods, benchmarking data or other comparative measures.
  • Maintains data in accordance with requirements of The Queen’s Medical Center (QMC) Trauma Services policies and procedures, and the State of Hawaii Department of Health, accreditation agencies and registries in which the medical center participates.

B. MANUAL MATERIAL HANDLING:

  • Occasional: Carry between 11-20 lbs. Push and Pull between 36-50 lbs.

C. NON-MANUAL MATERIAL HANDLING:
  • Infrequent: N/A
  • Occasional: Stoop/Bend. Kneel. Twist. Squat. Climb: Stairs/Ladder.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Subjected to noise and/or vibration from intercom, computer, monitors.
  • Exposure to body fluids and communicable diseases.
  • Working environment is sometimes stressful due to handling multiple tasks at one time.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate's degree in health information management, healthcare or related field preferred.
  • Successful completion of the American Trauma Society (ATS) Trauma Registry Course and the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicines (AAAM) abbreviated injury scale (AIS) course.
  • Training in E-Codes and/or AIS coding preferred.

B. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) preferred.
  • Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) preferred.
  • Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) preferred.

C. EXPERIENCE:
  • One (1) year trauma registrar experience, or one (1) year experience in a clinical healthcare position (i.e. EMT, physician practice assistant, licensed practical nurse, registered nurse) with prior trauma registrar experience.
  • Experience to demonstrate knowledge and ability to work with databases and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology anatomy and physiology.
  • Experience with performance improvement programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM coding preferred.
  • Prior experience with EPIC software preferred.
