Research Assistant Scientist
Minimum requirement is a Ph.D. in Biochemistry or a related field.
The Department of Oral Biology is seeking applications for a full-time, non-tenure position at the rank of Research Assistant Scientist to study Streptococcus mutans, protein translocation pathways particularly related to membrane biogenesis. Specifically, our lab studies membrane protein chaperone insertases, and their cooperative interactions with the signal recognition particle pathway and accessory components. This position is supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health.
Applicants must have experience with standard cloning and recombinant DNA methodologies, protein production, column chromatography and protein purification is required. Familiarity with bacterial membrane preparation and proteomic and lipidomic analyses is desirable, as is RNA preparation and RNAseq analysis. Candidates who have experience with techniques to evaluate protein-protein and macromolecular assembly will be given preference. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and have a solid record of scientific productivity and publication, excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Evidence of excellent organizational skills is preferred, as well as an ability to interpret and present scientific and clinical data.
Responsibilities include designing and executing experiments, developing research protocols, analyzing and interpreting data, and preparing manuscripts for publication. The role also involves presenting findings within the department and at national conferences. A strong contribution to scholarly productivity is essential.
Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience.
