Research Associate, Paediatrics & Child Health -MC - (260001KB)
Introduction
The Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has ten community-based field sites across Pakistan (including four in Karachi) and focuses on research for betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that cater to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level.

This is a grant funded contractual position
Responsibilities
you will be responsible to:

monitor, clinically examine and follow study new born and provide support in their clinical care in collaboration with hospital staff.

identify different medical treatment being provided to study newborn e.g.: medications, procedures performed, investigations done and plan of care
-
enroll Newborns: Enroll newborns based on Project Protocols inclusion criteria

training new junior staff (Lady Health Workers - LHWs / Community Health Workers - CHWs) in research / interviewing skills and proper data collection
-
take care for equipment through proper cleaning, storage, per shift check of the inventory and timely
-
monitoring culture positive samples and liaison with Pathology lab to assure participant lab samples/cultures/ CSF/Urine/ blood cultures are stored in the designated research lab

participate in unit-based nursing education, quality improvement sessions, audits, spot checks and skill checks
-
do shifting duties (morning, evening and nights) and remain flexible in working at AKUH
-
flexibility in taking over additional/new responsibilities when required by project and ready to perform any other related task assigned by the supervisor

consultation Appointments: Ensure babies attend scheduled appointments with their consultant
-
required to perform follow-ups in Clinical areas
-
attend training and refresher workshops regularly
-
prepare and present weekly project related activity reports.
Requirement
You should have:
-
Registered Nurse (RN/BSCN) degree with some experience in neonatology and obstetric care (RN with Midwife Diploma will be preferred)

at least One – Two years is required specifically in Pediatrics & NICU

sensitivity to cultural differences

ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively

excellent Team Player skills

good communication and interpersonal skills
-
resilience and ability to cope with work pressure.
