Research Associate, Paediatrics & Child Health -MC

Introduction

The Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has ten community-based field sites across Pakistan (including four in Karachi) and focuses on research for betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that cater to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level.

This is a grant funded contractual position

Responsibilities

you will be responsible to:

• maintain the Pharmacy Site File (PSF) and Central Stock Accountability Log, including documentation of dispensing procedures, recording all dispensing activities, and completing temperature logs for storage locations
• understand and fill study CRFs for record keeping
• oversee storage and dispensation of IMP, including weekly transport of IMP doses from CTU pharmacy to IVPB pharmacy. Ensure sufficient weekend stock is available in IVPB pharmacy when the study pharmacist is off duty
• prepare study IMP doses according to neonate weight, including daily and initial doses, with accuracy and complete NeoSep1 Fosfomycin-Flomoxef preparation worksheets
• train non-study pharmacy staff to ensure weekend coverage of participant doses
• track patient billing for PBSD to ensure that, before the participant is discharged, relevant medicines have been subtracted from the patient bill and charged on the study budget
• the study pharmacist is responsible for the storage of used (empty) and unused vials of flomoxef and fosfomycin in the CTU pharmacy for drug accountability and destruction according to local procedures upon Sponsor authorization
• in case the study IMP drug has expired or is quarantined/recalled, the study pharmacist is responsible for assuring the product is handled according to the study SOP mentioned in the manual of operations and AKU guidelines.

Requirement

You should have:

• Pharm.D (Bachelor’s degree) (Registered with Pharmacy Council Pakistan)
• minimum of 1-2 years’ experience of pharmacy related work either public or private hospitals especially in tertiary care settings (Inpatient Pharmacy)
• IV Sterile preparation skills must be excellent, good documentation skills
• good knowledge of antibiotics and other medicines, their uses, administrations, side effects, contra-indications
• demonstrates excellent ability to work in teams
• ability to speak and understand and interpret in English, Urdu and Sindhi
• good knowledge of MS Office (at least Word, PowerPoint), internet browsing and searching primary, secondary and tertiary references
• willingness to work on weekends, holidays if required.
