Job Description


Klykov lab at the department of Biochemistry & Structural Biology is looking for a Research Associate (technician) who will support the lab operations. The main duties include cryo-samples shipping to domestic national facilities, maintaining animal (mice) colonies, supplies ordering, and general lab maintenance. The scientific component may be introduced assuming the major tasks are completed.

The position is fully funded for at least 3 years. The salary range is commensurate with the experience. Bachelor’s degree is required but Master’s degree is preferred, experience of working with animals is preferred but not required.


    Responsibilities

  • Leads in planning, designing and implementing research experiments according to established protocols to assure high quality scientific results in support of project goals.
  • Oversees and conducts experiments and studies and assesses outcome; adapts continued studies based on the organization of findings.
  • Presents data in organized, readable formats including written reports and graphical summaries, accounts for relevant supplies and ordering them as needed and other activities related to each project.
  • Conducts library and topical research pertinent to projects.
  • Writes and prepares final papers to support findings; submits evidence for publication.
  • Assures compliance with institution policies, rules and regulations to meet federal, state and local standards and codes pertaining to safety and ethics.
  • Assists other research investigators in the lab with their experiments.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor important and complex projects concurrently.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Lotus Notes/other email software.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, to include writing and preparing memorandums, letters, and other official correspondence.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a specialized field of study is required.
  • Master's Degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Six (6) years of experience is required.
  • Previous experience working with animals in a lab environment is preferred.
