Job Summary

The Lassonde Startup Academy is a pre-college program designed for entrepreneurs, makers, builders, and doers, offered by the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute. Residential counselors will work with high school students after classroom instruction to focus on durable skill building and to explore life on the University of Utah campus and within the surrounding community.

Our 2-week summer residential program runs from June 15th-June 26th, 2026. Residential Counselors will work overnight.

Residential Counselors will receive accommodations and be expected to stay overnight during residential camp weeks at the same housing as students. Meals will be provided during camp programming.

This is an in-person position. Applicants will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

The selected candidates must be able to attend a paid week of staff training prior to the program start date and work from June 15th-June 26th, including the weekend.

Responsibilities

Residential Counselors will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in the direction, supervision, and organization of students during activities and throughout the camp in order to meet the intended outcomes

  • Developing and implement activities for students in accordance with the program mission. Including planning durable skill building activities, on and off campus activities, etc.

  • Maintaining a high standard of health and safety and upholding all safety and security rules and procedures

  • Acting as a role model for students

  • Working with Youth Education and Lassonde staff to ensure program quality

  • Encourage campers to participate in activities by demonstrating excitement and enthusiasm appropriately
  • Other duties may be assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Preferences

  • At least 21 years old

  • Prior experience working with high schoolers

  • Majors in entrepreneurship, human development, education, social work, psychology, or other related fields

  • Self-directed, punctual, and highly organized

  • Available consistently throughout the scheduled program weeks, including weekend
