JOB DESCRIPTION:


Purpose: Assist with the continuous development and implementation of core curriculum standards and the National Arts Standards for visual and performing arts teachers K-12. Contributes to the development of arts integration programs including: instructional effectiveness and professional development for teachers. Provide instructional support and professional development for teachers and staff as needed for the inclusion of arts into other subject areas. Connect teachers, students and the community with the expansive, high-quality collection of professional and educational resources in the Unified Arts Center.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


Essential Functions. An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Assists with the continuous development and implementation of the District’s comprehensive plan for visual and performing arts programs with an emphasis on expanding Fine Arts instruction and supporting the inclusion of arts integration into other subject areas.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of arts integration that aligns with district goals and guardrails.
  • Plans and implements professional development for arts integration.
  • Contributes to monthly department newsletters.
  • Assists with the development, implementation, facilitation, and assessment of district-wide staff professional development efforts and activities regarding programs for school sites.
  • Provide direct support in co-teaching and modeling to teachers to demonstrate best practices in arts integration.
  • Collaborate with sites to develop a long-range professional development plan of curricular improvements using arts integration in connection with content areas including: math, science, literacy, social studies, and health.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of proposals including gathering data.
  • Composes and distributes correspondence regarding educational professional development training opportunities.
  • Plans and implements a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students and complies with State Department of Education Standards and the APS Board of Education goals and guardrails.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
  • Establishes clear objectives for all workshops, training, sessions, lessons, assignments, units and projects, and communicates these objectives.
  • Contributes to professional learning, collaborates with other staff development leaders and providers in the district, feeder patterns to build capacity and improve the culture of learning in the system in accordance with research-based practices.
  • Provide training on program philosophy, development, and implementation.
  • Manage projects assigned by Fine Arts administrators.

Duties. All duties are standard and apply to all Albuquerque Public Schools employees. Duties cannot be changed or altered. Employees are not screened based on duties.

  • Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession, APS employee handbook, employment contract and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations.
  • Articulates and facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of the Albuquerque Public Schools.
  • Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, District policy and administrative regulations.
  • Shares the responsibility for the supervision and care of District inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and supplies, and reports safety hazards promptly.
  • Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals.
  • Maintains professional competence through District mandated, individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Attends and/or conducts staff meetings and participates on committees within areas of responsibility.
  • Performs other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by an immediate supervisor.

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person, virtually and on the telephone.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects and coordinate the work of others.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite.
  • Knowledge of state and national Visual and Performing Arts standards.
  • Strategic planning, researching, data analysis and interpretation skills.


REQUIREMENTS:


Required Education, Licenses, Certifications, & Experience.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education or related field.
  • Valid NM Teacher’s Level II or Level III license appropriate to teaching assignment. 8 or more years of experience teaching visual or performing arts.
    • 200 K-8 for Elementary
    • 300 6-12 for Secondary
    • 500 Pre K- 12
    • With appropriate endorsement in Visual or Performing Arts
  • Knowledge and experience in integrating arts disciplines into core subject areas.
  • Leadership, mentorship, presentation skills and experience working with and educating adults.
