Provides Respiratory Care to patients.
Description:
- Identifies acute and chronic cardiopulmonary dysfunction.
- Initiate and provide ventilatory support. Recommend appropriate ventilator settings, use lung protective strategies, appropriately wean the patient, monitor/troubleshoot the ventilator.
- Use best practice and follow approved Therapist driven protocols, procedures, and department policies.
- Perform diagnostic procedures such as ABG draws and sputum specimen collection.
- Perform bedside spirometry.
- Working knowledge of monitors used on the units.
- Monitor patient’s respiratory condition during transport within the hospital. Monitor patients’ respiratory condition during transport to other facilities as needed.
- Assist with conscious sedations and intubations.
- Administer therapeutic gases such as oxygen, Heliox, high flow oxygen therapy.
- Assist with Bronchoscopies performed in the Bronch Suite/OR/floors/ER/ICU.
- Assist in all treatment modalities used at FH to provide care to the neonatal and pediatric population.
- Assesses tracheostomy, laryngectomy tubes.
- Maintain the artificial airway. Perform naso-tracheal, endotracheal and tracheostomy suctioning.
- Assists providers with tracheostomy tube changes.
- Documents correct brand, size, cuffed or uncuffed, disposable or reusable inner cannulas on the EMR avatar.
- Works in conjunction with nursing staff to provide trach care and tracheal suction.
- Assess for and administer PEP, CPT, and all other airway clearance devices/methods.
- Administer aerosolized/metered dose medications.
- Assess for, administer, troubleshoot, and maintain non-invasive ventilation.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds to offer clinical expertise.
- Provide accurate and complete documentation/charging in the EMR.
- Perform charge reconciliation on all patients daily to ensure correct billing.
- Interact with Providers and other staff in a positive and respectful manner.
- Respond to requests in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate excellent bedside manner.
- Precept/train/orient other departments, students and Respiratory staff as required.
- Maintain equipment, supplies, stock.
- Attend seminars and educational programs to enhance professional growth and meet the needs of the patients served.
- Consistently provide service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers.
- Perform other work-related duties as requested/assigned.
Qualifications:
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT).
- Massachusetts state licensure in Respiratory Therapy.
- Current BLS certification
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 6 months of hire and maintain certification bi-annually.
- Minimum one-year critical care experience preferred.
