Job Title: Restaurant Hostess / Host

Job Summary

The Restaurant Hostess/Host is responsible for welcoming guests, managing reservations and seating, and ensuring smooth front-of-house operations. This role creates the first impression of the restaurant and plays a key part in providing excellent guest experiences.

Key Responsibilities1. Guest Greeting & Seating

  • Welcome guests warmly upon arrival and make them feel comfortable.
  • Manage reservations, walk-ins, and waiting lists.
  • Escort guests to their tables and provide menus.
  • Ensure proper seating arrangements based on guest preferences and table availability.

2. Reservation & Waiting List Management

  • Answer phone calls and handle reservations efficiently.
  • Update the reservation system and monitor table turnover.
  • Provide accurate wait-time estimates to guests.
  • Coordinate with servers and the restaurant captain to ensure smooth seating flow.

3. Guest Service

  • Assist guests with inquiries about the menu, restaurant services, or policies.
  • Handle special requests (birthdays, anniversaries, accessibility needs).
  • Manage guest complaints politely and inform supervisors when needed.
  • Ensure guests feel valued throughout their visit.

4. Front Desk & Lobby Management

  • Maintain a clean and organized reception area.
  • Keep menus, promotional materials, and reservation books updated.
  • Coordinate with server teams to ensure efficient service and table turnover.
  • Monitor dining area capacity to avoid overcrowding.

5. Communication & Coordination

  • Communicate seating status and guest flow to service staff.
  • Inform servers of new guests and special requests.
  • Assist with takeaway or delivery order coordination if required.

6. Compliance & Presentation

  • Follow grooming standards and maintain a professional appearance.
  • Adhere to hygiene, safety, and hospitality service guidelines.
  • Uphold restaurant policies and customer service standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Previous experience as a host/hostess or in customer service is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Pleasant personality with a guest-first attitude.
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure.
