Overview Of The Role

The Retail Operations Manager is responsible for driving strategic retail initiatives and optimizing operational productivity to achieve revenue growth and exceptional customer service. The role provides leadership to showroom managers and oversees the commercial development of the business by maintaining high professional retail standards across all showrooms. Responsibilities include maximizing sales and profitability, ensuring operational standards, managing people performance, leveraging market intelligence, controlling inventory, ensuring effective visual merchandising, optimizing store space, planning promotions, and facilitating store openings and closures.

What You Will Do
  • Sales & Profitability:
    • Maximize sales productivity by driving KPIs such as Sales per Square Foot, Average Transaction Value (ATV), Conversion Rate, and Upselling.
    • Analyze store performance using financial Profit & Loss reports and provide corrective action plans.
    • Deploy monthly sales budgets with showrooms and manage controllable operating costs within budgetary guidelines.
    • Ensure showroom managers conduct effective communications regarding sales targets and performance.
    • Identify commercial opportunities within each showroom and guide staff deployment on the shop floor.
    • Monitor rosters, leaves, and store rotations to maximize productivity.
    • Provide replenishment plans and monitor stock allocator executions.
    • Drive brand performance monthly in each location and propose incentive schemes for frontline teams.
  • Retail & Operational Standards:
    • Foster a culture of customer centricity within frontline and reporting teams.
    • Ensure stores exceed service levels and enhance the shopping experience.
    • Implement and manage DSES Service Standards and address customer escalations to maintain satisfaction.
    • Adhere to brand visual merchandising standards and SOPs for operational efficiency.
    • Coordinate data capture, e-receipts targets, and health & safety compliance.
    • Maintain store housekeeping, petty cash statements, and monthly maintenance trackers.
    • Coordinate with FM corporate teams for repairs and maintenance; plan regular R&M visits.
    • Develop strategies to optimize sales and customer service through initiatives such as staff uniforms, in-store music, and fragrances.
    • Ensure audit reports follow SOPs and conduct quarterly retail operations checks.
  • People & Performance Management:
    • Develop retail skills through direction, coaching, and support to achieve targets.
    • Motivate and lead high-performing teams; optimize MPC planning within budget.
    • Collaborate with HRBP on talent selection and recruitment; identify training needs and plan annual training calendars with L&D, HRBP, and BMs.
    • Conduct regular performance management, coaching, and meetings to enhance team performance and accountability.
    • Plan team activities to boost motivation and teamwork; formulate succession plans for the talent pipeline.
  • Market Intelligence & Communication:
    • Provide management with market insights on competition, sales, footprint, and expansions.
    • Liaise with brand managers to implement brand strategies at showrooms; ensure relevant information is communicated to regional managers.
    • Conduct operational meetings and showroom visits monthly; ensure regular team communications.
    • Coordinate with marketing, finance, logistics, store development, and services for effective operations.
  • Stock Management & Inventory Control:
    • Monitor and control store inventory with regular brand inventories.
    • Maximize stock replenishment through proactive relationships with showroom and brand managers.
    • Highlight slow-moving stock and maintain stock security SOPs; aim for zero pilferage in annual audits.
  • Visual Merchandising & Store Space Optimization:
    • Oversee brand visual merchandising standards and implement visuals for incremental sales.
    • Plan space allocation within showrooms to maximize ROI and review layouts to maximize sales.
    • Provide guidance during setup and merchandising of new showrooms.
  • Retail Store Promotions & Openings/Closures:
    • Plan retail marketing calendars and seasonal promotions; manage annual sale events with marketing and BM teams.
    • Ensure promotions are implemented across locations and that store teams understand promotion mechanics.
    • Coordinate store openings, new projects, and closures; prepare IAN documents for Capex approval and monitor project expenses.
  • Required Skills To Be Successful:
  • Leadership and team management; strategic planning and execution in retail operations; strong communication and stakeholder management; data analysis and KPI-driven performance.
  • What Qualifies You For The Role:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, or related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in retail operations management with leadership experience.
  • Proven track record of achieving sales objectives and optimizing operational efficiency; strong analytical and strategic planning skills with financial performance proficiency.
