The Construction Manager for Residential and Hospitality Services (RHS) serves as the liaison between RHS departments and the Planning and Projects office (PPO) to coordinate and oversee medium and large PPO projects, IPF minor project needs, and day to day facilities and infrastructure projects, with an emphasis on space alterations and improvements; directly supervises divisional projects under $250,000 and serves as a customer representative on IPF projects exceeding $250,000; oversees the design process, project budgets, installation, construction, and closeout of RHS projects.
The role involves working closely with contractors, vendors, consultants, and university stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with university standards. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong customer service and communication skills to work effectively with a diverse population, the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, and excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions. The position requires moderate physical effort and includes visiting interior and exterior work sites.
All positions in RHS are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency conditions, you will be expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years of college, technical or vocational school with an Associate’s degree in Engineering or a related field such as Construction Management; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in construction, industrial design, and project management; demonstrated knowledge of construction project processes, including scheduling and budgeting. Demonstrated ability to interpret construction documents and communicate effectively with contractors, vendors, consultants, and stakeholders; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid vehicle operator's license is required at the time of hire.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field such as Construction Management or Architecture. Familiarity with MSU policies and procedures or experience in a higher education or institutional facilities environment is preferred. Additional desirable experience includes knowledge of APPA Facilities Management training, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and experience with Planon and EBS systems.
The job requires moderate physical effort and involves visiting interior and exterior work sites and entering plenums and mechanical rooms for inspection up to 25% of the time.
