Job Summary

Possesses knowledge and skill necessary to meet standards for professional practice specified in Texas Nurse Practice Act. Practice is characterized by a balance of dependent and interdependent decision-making. Competently functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team. Must be a superior communicator, have excellent customer service skills, be enthusiastic, and display a high degree of professionalism


Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents the daily care of assigned patients.
  • Identifies nursing diagnosis/patient care needs, individualizes care plan, and revises plan of care as needed.
  • Executes physician's orders for all assigned patients; administers medications and treatments and delivers population specific competent nursing care in accordance with UTHSCT's policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Performs routine technical procedures/skills in specialty area assigned.
  • Performs and reports Point of Care testing.
  • Provides basic patient/family instruction and healthcare teaching.
  • Promotes positive guest and patient relations.
  • Respects and supports patient rights.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times.
  • Attends/participates in unit meetings/activities and supports the philosophy and goals of the unit department and organization.
  • Required to maintain competency in the patient safety functions related to their position.
  • Completion of Annual Mandatory Training, TB testing, and required licensure and certifications before expiration date.
  • Accountable for the identification and reduction of unsafe practices that could cause harm to patients.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Education/Experience

Two (2) years clinical experience as RN.
  • One (1) year experience as an RN in an outpatient Clinic Pediatric experience preferred.
  • Electronic Health Record experience preferred.
  • Bilingual a plus.


Required Licenses/Certification

Must possess and maintain a current RN license to practice in Texas.
  • Must possess and maintain current BLS certification.


Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

Participates in unit based quality improvement program.
  • Adheres to internal controls established for department.
  • Required to maintain competency in the patient safety functions related to their position.
  • Participates and supports Hospital Performance Improvement activities.
  • Completion of Annual Mandatory Training, TB testing, and required licensure and certifications before expiration date.
  • Bilingual a plus.
  • EMR experience.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including: telephones, facsimiles, copiers, personal computers and printers.
  • Ability to operate medical equipment such as I.V. pumps, portable oxygen, defibrillators, telemetry monitors, wound vacs, hospital beds, and other equipment required for patient care.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
