Road Inspector

Job Summary

The Road Inspector will be responsible for inspecting, monitoring, and verifying the quality of roadway and related civil works on site. The role focuses on ensuring that construction activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, standards, and safety requirements, particularly at road–bridge interfaces and associated infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect road construction works including roads, junctions, sidewalks, drainage, and associated civil works to ensure compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate with structural, geotechnical, utility, and traffic teams to ensure proper integration of roadway works, especially near bridges and structures.
  • Review and verify contractor submittals related to construction activities, including shop drawings, RFIs, method statements, and inspection requests.
  • Conduct routine and ad-hoc site inspections to monitor workmanship quality, materials used, and construction progress.
  • Identify non-conformities, raise inspection reports, and follow up on corrective actions with contractors.
  • Attend site coordination meetings and provide technical input related to road construction and inspection findings.
  • Support documentation activities including daily inspection reports, progress updates, and technical records.
  • Ensure works are carried out in accordance with safety regulations, traffic management plans, and environmental requirements.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior inspectors or site staff as required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 8–9 years of experience in road inspection, supervision, or site-based civil works on infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience on major roadway, highway, and bridge-related projects.
  • Good understanding of road construction methods, materials, and quality control procedures.
  • Familiarity with drawings and basic design tools such as AutoCAD (Civil 3D knowledge is an advantage).
  • Basic knowledge of drainage systems, traffic flow considerations, and road safety requirements.
  • Strong reporting, coordination, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with consultants or on client-side supervision roles.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary project environments.
  • Familiarity with local authority standards and approval processes is an advantage.
