Rolland Center Assistant

The Rolland Center for Lincoln Research at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne is seeking a part-time Rolland Center Assistant to help bring one of the nation's premier Lincoln collections to life for our visitors.

Opened in 2022, the Rolland Center is a state-of-the-art museum and research facility that houses the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection. The Center features interactive digital exhibits, immersive 180-degree projection experiences, and curated displays of original artifacts, including letters, photographs, and other historical materials related to Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War era.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with the public, is interested in history, and is excited to help visitors explore a unique, nationally significant collection.

What You'll Do

As a Rolland Center Assistant, you'll help create a welcoming and engaging experience for visitors while supporting the care and presentation of the collection. Responsibilities include:

  • Welcoming visitors to the Rolland Center and helping them engage with interactive exhibits and physical artifacts

  • Providing orientation, interpretation, and occasional tours for individuals and groups

  • Assisting patrons with questions about the Center and connecting them with Lincoln librarians when deeper research help is needed

  • Supporting the care and organization of collection materials, including basic conservation or minor mend activities as directed

  • Helping maintain and refresh physical and virtual displays and assisting with programs when needed

  • Assisting visitors with the Center's technology, software, and specialized equipment

  • Monitoring activity in the Center and reminding visitors of library policies to help protect the collection and ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone

  • Helping keep the Center clean, orderly, and ready for visitors

  • Strong communication skills and comfort speaking with individuals and groups

  • Interest in history, museums, archives, or cultural institutions

  • Ability to learn and assist with interactive technology and exhibit features

  • Attention to detail and respect for the care of historical materials

  • The ability to work independently while also collaborating with library staff

Benefits and Compensation

You will have benefits such as a Flexible Spending Account, Paid Time Off with three weeks of vacation accrual and one week of sick accrual, Employee Discounts, Employee Assistance Program, and Voluntary Insurance options.

The pay starts at $14.05 per hour and up based on experience.

Schedule:

Sunday 12-5

Monday 4-9

Other 10 hours - flexible
