Route Supervisor in Waste Industry (Kent, WA)

Who We Are & Why This Role Matters:

Copia Resources provides route-based and on-site waste management support services for multifamily, commercial, and client properties across multiple markets. Our teams work directly with trash, recycling, and compost operations each day to keep properties clean, functional, and compliant. This is active, hands-on work performed around bins, enclosures, service areas, and outdoor property environments.

We are not a desk-based operation. Our leaders are expected to understand the work, support the field, and maintain high standards where service actually happens. The Route Supervisor is a key frontline management role responsible for daily staffing, route execution, employee accountability, service quality, and communication across assigned operations.

This is a working leadership role. Route Supervisors are expected to lead teams, visit sites regularly, keep operations on track, and personally provide field coverage when needed.

What You’ll Do - Daily Operations & Staffing:

  • Build and adjust daily routes, schedules, and assignments based on staffing levels and service needs
  • Assign employees to routes, vehicles, equipment, phones, properties, or work locations as needed
  • Respond to call-outs, absences, and last-minute coverage issues
  • Reassign available staff when possible and personally provide field coverage when needed
  • Help ensure all assigned routes and properties are completed safely, efficiently, and on time
  • Communicate recurring staffing or operational concerns to Area Management

What You’ll Do - Team Leadership:

  • Supervise frontline employees across assigned territories, field offices, or service areas
  • Hold employees accountable to attendance, punctuality, professionalism, safety, and performance standards
  • Deliver coaching, corrective action, and disciplinary meetings as needed
  • Conduct interviews and assist with hiring decisions
  • Make recommendations to HR and Area Management regarding promotions, discipline, and terminations
  • Reinforce company expectations through team meetings, reminders, and field coaching

What You’ll Do - Field Leadership & Service Standards:

  • Maintain working knowledge of field responsibilities and company service standards
  • Perform route or site coverage duties when needed, including hands-on waste and recycling work
  • Understand proper sorting procedures and ensure materials are placed in correct containers
  • Inspect completed work to ensure services are thorough and corners are not being cut
  • Reinforce expectations that jobs are completed fully, not partially or cosmetically
  • Coach employees who rush work, miss service details, or fail to meet standards
  • Lead by example through urgency, professionalism, and quality execution in the field
  • Ensure client sites receive consistent, high-level service every visit

What You’ll Do - Quality Control & Client Readiness:

  • Conduct spot checks, route audits, and site visits to verify service quality
  • Identify performance gaps and take prompt corrective action
  • Participate in property walks and site visits for prospective business opportunities
  • Help ensure strong presentation and service readiness at client locations
  • Support operational priorities related to efficiency, labor control, safety, and service quality

What You’ll Do - Communication & Administration:

  • Communicate staffing issues, incidents, service concerns, and field updates to leadership
  • Help manage employees on temporary work restrictions in coordination with HR and management
  • Review timekeeping accuracy and operational records as needed
  • Maintain organized follow-up on field issues and employee matters

When You’ll Work

This role is primarily a weekday operations schedule aligned with early-morning route launches.

  • Standard schedule is generally Monday through Friday, beginning around 3:30am–3:45am
  • Teams begin reporting at 3:45am, with routes typically departing by 4:00am
  • End times may vary depending on staffing needs, operational issues, meetings, or field priorities
  • Mornings are fast-paced and time-sensitive, as routes must launch on schedule.
  • Limited after-hours responsiveness may be needed for call-outs, coverage needs, or urgent operational issues
  • Weekend field work is uncommon, but occasional support may be required in exceptional circumstances

What We’re Looking For:

  • Minimum 2 years of management or supervisory experience leading frontline employees in field, operations, logistics, facilities, janitorial, waste, recycling, or similar service environments
  • Able to read, write, speak, and understand both English and Spanish
  • Strongly preferred and prioritized: candidates with hands-on experience in waste, recycling, material recovery facilities (MRFs), transfer stations, or other active waste operations where teams sort materials, maintain production standards, and work in demanding environments
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to hold standards professionally and consistently
  • Excellent judgment and ability to solve staffing issues quickly in real time
  • Organized and comfortable managing schedules, routes, staffing changes, and multiple moving priorities daily
  • Leads from the front and is never above stepping in to help when needed
  • Comfortable working in active field environments involving trash, recycling, bins, service areas, odors, outdoor conditions, and physical job sites
  • Able to coach employees, manage conflict, and document issues appropriately
  • Strong communicator with employees, clients, and leadership
