BGCSV Mission:

Established in 1944, Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley (BGCSV) is dedicated to uplifting the lives of underprivileged youth ages 4-18—and beyond. In addition to being a safe haven that fosters positive relationships and belonging, we collaborate closely with school officials to offer a diverse range of afterschool and summer enrichment programs, serving 8,000 members across 45 clubhouse locations spanning San Jose, Morgan Hill, and Contra Costa County. Our mission is to bridge the gap for low-income youth and amplify pathways to success within historically underserved communities by fostering scholastic achievement. As an autonomous 501(c)(3) entity, affiliated with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, BGCSV operates under the stewardship of a local Board of Directors. This dedicated team is entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing our programs and funding, ensuring our continued impact on the lives of Silicon Valley Youth.

Position Summary:

The safety and well-being of young people at Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley is our top priority. There is nothing more important to us than keeping children safe and protected. The Safety Compliance Officer will manage Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley’s safety, security, and risk management strategy. Under the direction of the Chief Program & Strategy Officer, the Safety Compliance Officer will serve as both a resource and a champion of Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley’s Culture of Safety—a culture that believes safety is non-negotiable and that youth who are mentally and physically safe are better able to learn, grow, and thrive.

Our ideal candidate will have a strong background in work dedicated to creating safety-first environments, have qualifications and experience overseeing organization-wide safety assessments, strong presentation skills to lead training, and impeccable interpersonal skills to advise, coach, and support Club staff as to safety policies and practices.

Requirements:


Responsibilities:

  • Promote a Culture of Safety by maintaining a safe and healthy environment for youth and staff across all Club sites.
  • Identify, promote, maintain, and update tools and resources such as policy and procedure templates, checklists, and training programs related to risk management and Club safety.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to assess clubhouse safety, identify hazards, and ensure compliance with policies and best practices.
  • Investigate and document all workplace injuries and incidents, track trends, and report to OSHA as necessary; partner with the Vice President of Human Resources on workers' compensation cases.
  • Analyze incident data to identify patterns and recommend improvements to safety policies and procedures.
  • Guide BGCA reporting processes for critical incidents and collaborate with senior leadership and the CEO on public messaging when needed.
  • Advise sites and Clubs on risk management, loss prevention, insurance practices, and safety/security measures.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive training plan covering risk prevention, emergency procedures, incident reporting and best practices.
  • Provide training, consultation, and recommendations regarding incident management systems and related tools.
  • Improve communication by creating forums for staff to raise safety concerns and suggest improvements.
  • Serve as a staff liaison to the board-led Safety Committee, providing expertise on safety-related topics, incident reports, and managing the annual committee-supported annual safety assessment.
  • Create and maintain a regular schedule of safety meetings and organization-wide training sessions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, BGCA safety requirements, and industry best practices through ongoing professional development.
  • Participate in cross-functional, cross-departmental project teams, as assigned.
  • Demonstrate BGCSV’s mission-driven core values of growth, service, trust, accountability, and care.
  • Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Ethics Policy, and other guiding documents.
  • Perform additional relevant duties as assigned.

Compliance:

  • Partner with the Vice President of Human Resources?to ensure compliance of local sites and Clubs with BGCA’s background check and membership compliance standards (background checks, trainings, etc.)
  • Ensure local sites and Clubs comply with CAL/OSHA requirements, as well as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), local building codes, health regulations and state childcare regulations?

Reporting & Analysis:

  • Develop and maintain internal safety SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) to guide consistent practices across all sites and Clubs.
  • Create and implement monitoring tools and a structured reporting system to track safety performance and compliance.
  • Collaborate with directors and facilities personnel to ensure safe Club buildings, vehicles and environments.
  • Develop and maintain a regular schedule of site and Club safety audits to proactively identify and address risks.

Essential Knowledge & Skills:

  • School, federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • CAL/OSHA compliance.
  • BGCA safety guidelines and membership requirements.
  • Youth development safety best practices.
  • Knowledge of risk management, premises liability, security, property hazards, sports safety, emergency response planning/procedures, vehicular safety, bullying, and child abuse.
  • Experience with Salesforce (highly preferred).
  • Experience with data visualization and dashboarding tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) (highly preferred).
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • Strong administrative, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to deliver presentations to diverse audiences.

Qualifications:

  • Four-year degree in related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in safety management, youth development and/or Club operations or a similar discipline.
  • Ability to work independently and responsibly with minimal supervision.
  • Results-driven approach; seek data to inform decisions.
  • Comfortable with fluid work environments; resilient.
  • Great organization, tracking, and follow-through.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and perform basic custodial or maintenance tasks.
  • Must successfully clear DOJ background check.
