Responsibilities:
- Risk Assessment:
- Conduct daily environmental and safety audits.
- Inspect and examine all health and safety-related complaints, workplace accidents, and outbreaks of diseases.
- Investigate incidents and prepare reports on occurrences.
- Hazard Identification:
- Search for physical, biological, and chemical workplace hazards.
- Investigate the construction site to ensure equipment, production, and material processes do not pose safety or health risks to employees, work guests, and the general public.
- Safety Programs and Strategies:
- Create, evaluate, and implement health and safety programs and strategies.
- Work closely with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
- Train and advise employers and stakeholders on workplace safety and environmental protection.
- Equipment Safety:
- Verify the adequacy and safety of all proposed tools and equipment.
- Review and approve all subcontractors’ safety plans.
- Emergency Preparedness:
- Train and run drills with workers on how to manage emergency situations.
- Develop and enforce emergency response planning.
- Documentation:
- Write daily safety and health reports or injury logs and ensure they are completed and submitted to relevant government agencies.
Requirements:
- Experience: Proven experience as a Construction Safety Officer, especially in high-risk environments.
- Trakhees Cards: SARS Mandatory requirement.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with safety regulations, OSHA guidelines, and industry best practices.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with workers, contractors, and management.
- Leadership: Strong leadership skills to promote safety culture and enforce compliance.
- Problem-Solving: Analytical thinking to identify and address safety issues promptly.
