Job Title: Safety Officer – Chemical Compliance
Department: Safety Department
Reports to: Safety Manager
Location: SDES – King Abdulaziz Port, Dammam
Position Summary:
The Safety Officer – Chemical Compliance is responsible for supporting the Safety Department in monitoring chemical materials stored or handled within SDES operational areas. The role ensures adherence to basic safety standards, assists in documenting compliance with seaport and safety authority requirements, and contributes to maintaining a safe working environment. This entry-level position is suitable for candidates with foundational knowledge of chemical safety and a commitment to developing in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in monitoring the handling and storage of chemical materials in SDES warehouses and yards.
• Ensure the availability and visibility of basic chemical safety signage and labels (e.g., hazard symbols, MSDS locations).
• Support the Safety Manager in conducting routine safety checks and observations, especially in chemical zones.
• Maintain records of inspections and compliance reports as per safety protocols.
• Coordinate with warehouse teams to identify and report unsafe practices related to chemical materials.
• Ensure fire extinguishers, spill kits, and basic chemical PPE are accessible and in good condition.
• Assist in internal awareness campaigns or training sessions on chemical safety procedures.
• Report any incidents, near misses, or violations related to chemical materials promptly to the Safety Manager.
• Support during external inspections or audits conducted by port or civil defense authorities.
• Participate in emergency drills related to chemical hazards and evacuation procedures.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
• Completion of scheduled safety checks involving chemical areas.
• Zero major safety violations in assigned zones.
• Timely and accurate reporting of incidents and observations.
• Participation in training and safety drills.
• Improvement in basic chemical safety compliance over time.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• 0–3 years of relevant experience.
• Basic certifications in occupational safety or HAZMAT (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH IGC – even partially completed).
• Familiarity with chemical safety concepts (e.g., MSDS, labeling, hazard classifications).
• Willingness to work in a seaport/logistics environment.
• Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
• Arabic and English language proficiency preferred.
