Sales & Use Tax Analyst

The Team

We are seeking a Sales and Use Tax Analyst to join American Tower’s Sales and Use Tax team. The team is responsible for all US sales and use tax compliance, Canada goods and services tax, and business license, withholding tax, and other tax compliance functions. Day to day you will analyze billings and purchase activities to validate tax treatment, prepare sales/use tax returns, create tax accrual journal entries, and assist with balance sheet reconciliation of sales tax accounts. You will also assist with tax audits and business license applications and renewals.

What You Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent experience
  • Required At least 2-3 years of experience in a finance environment required
  • Able to take the initiative to create improvements to processes and reporting.
  • Strong written and oral communication, research, and software (specifically in Excel, OneSource, Oracle, and Alteryx) skills.
  • Self-motivated, driven, and able to work independently with the ability to work with different functional groups and levels of employees to achieve results effectively and professionally.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with an ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through an effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical skills; able to explain fluctuations and identify anomalies in large data sets and provide solutions for any found anomalies.

What You Can Offer Us

  • Responsible for sales and use tax returns, gross receipt tax returns, Canada goods and services tax returns and withholding tax returns by filed, reconcile taxes accrued vs. taxes paid monthly, and research tax variances and provide resolutions by filing accurate and timely tax returns in all tax jurisdictions in which the company operates.
  • Apply technical sales and use tax expertise in accordance with state and local laws and respond to inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders on taxability of products and services.
  • Review validity and retention of customer and Company exemption certificates for pending expiration and completeness.
  • Apply technical expertise in sales and use tax and Canada goods and services tax in accordance with tax laws and respond to inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders on taxability of products and services.
  • Perform month-end financial close, including reconciliation and analysis of general ledger accounts and assisting with the year-end audit process.
  • Assist with business licenses portfolio in appropriate jurisdictions.
  • Research registration requirement with state and local taxing authorities based on activities.
  • Implement technology solutions/tax engine logics including testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining technology tools (currently using OneSource)
  • Other duties as assigned.
