SAT & ACT Test Prep Tutor (Part-time)

Forgione Tutoring is looking for enthusiastic and dynamic educators to conduct private SAT, ACT, and SSAT lessons in our North Raleigh center. This is a part-time position with training required. Experience teaching SAT/ACT is preferred, but not necessary. Ideal candidates can make at least a year-long commitment.

Open positions

-A tutor qualified to teach all parts of the SAT and ACT (reading, math, and writing/grammar).

Schedule Requirements

A minimum of 13 hours per week and 3 shifts per week (one weekend day required):

· two 4-hr shifts on two weeknights

· 5 hour shift on Saturday or Sundays

Typical weekday shifts are 3-7 pm, 4-8 pm, or 5-9 pm. We can consider tutors who are available after 5:30 pm as well. Typical weekend shifts are 10 am - 3 pm, 11 am - 4 pm, 12 pm - 5 pm, etc. In many cases, tutors can gain more than 13 hours per week depending on demand, how busy the season, and the variety of subjects the tutor can teach.

Qualifications required

2-3 years minimum teaching or tutoring experience at the middle or high school level. Those with exclusively elementary school teaching or tutoring experience will not be considered.

Bachelor's degree or Bachelor’s degree in progress.

An engaging and motivational teaching style that communicates an enthusiasm for learning.

A passion for helping students reach their goals.

Excellent communication skills and professional presentation skills.

Excellent organization skills.

Strong customer focus.

Record of strong standardized test-taking and academic performance.

Strong background in English, reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, and grammar is required

Strong background in SAT and ACT-level mathematics is required: (numbers and operations; pre-algebra, advanced algebra and functions; geometry; data analysis, statistics, and probability; trigonometry)

Ability to pass a screening test that covers relevant subject matter.

Reliable transportation.

Available afternoons/evenings and at least one weekend day.

A minimum of 13 hours of availability per week, to include 5 hours on least one weekend day

Applicant must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Training

Completion of a training program, length of which to depend on the instructor's level of experience, is required. Tutors are compensated $20/hr for training after successful completion of training. Training ranges from 10 - 25 hours depending on the number of subjects.

Responsibilities

-Assist students with the mastery of test-taking skills, techniques, and SAT/ACT subject matter

-Teach weekly lessons, following the company's syllabi and curriculum

-Monitor and record student progress in our system

-Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and opportunities for students

-Identify and counsel students who are not improving and use experience and judgment to assist the students in reaching their goals

-Maintain effective and timely communication with supervisor regarding students' progress

-Maintain administrative duties in a thorough, organized and timely way: completing session notes, updating and maintaining online calendar, answering emails from parents/students.

Forgione Tutoring LLC is a Raleigh, NC-based tutoring company focused on providing high-quality instruction for the SAT, ACT, and other standardized tests, as well as subject tutoring and assistance with the college application process. Heather Forgione has tutored hundreds of students since her initial training in 2000. Forgione Tutoring began in 2007 in FL and was established in NC in 2010. Three years later, our first staff members came on board and our Cary location opened in 2015. We also opened another office in North Raleigh in September of 2018. As a local, family-owned company, we are committed to providing outstanding customer service and a supportive and fun environment for tutors. Instructors use our Strategy Workbook and curriculum as their primary teaching sources, but can supplement lessons with their own techniques to customize lessons to each student.
