- Planning and design: Review project plans and drawings to determine the scaffolding requirements. This includes assessing the type of scaffold needed, its load-bearing capacity, and placement.
- Material and resource management: Identify and procure the materials and equipment needed for the project. This includes monitoring inventory levels and inspecting all materials for wear or damage before use.
- Site assessment: Inspect the worksite to ensure it is suitable for scaffold erection. This involves checking for potential hazards like unstable ground, overhead power lines, and other potential obstructions.
- Developing safety plans: Create a site-specific safety plan for scaffolding, including a risk assessment to identify potential hazards and determine necessary precautions
- Erection and dismantling oversight: Ensure that the erection, alteration, and dismantling of the scaffolding structure are carried out correctly and according to the approved plan.
- Safety enforcement: Actively promote a safety-first culture by ensuring all team members adhere to safety regulations and use proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of the scaffolding to ensure its structural integrity and safety. This includes pre-shift inspections and re-inspections after any modifications.
- Problem-solving: Address any issues or conflicts that arise during the scaffolding process, whether they are safety-related, technical, or between team members.
- Scaffold tag management: Oversee the proper use and management of scaffold tags, which indicate the safety status of the structure.
- Training and mentoring: Provide guidance, instruction, and training to scaffolders, particularly new or junior crew members
- Documentation and reporting: Maintain detailed and accurate records of all scaffolding activities, including inspections, maintenance, and any incidents.
- Record keeping: Track scaffold usage, modifications, and compliance with regulations.
- Coordination and communication: Liaise with site managers, safety officers, and other stakeholders to ensure the scaffolding project runs on schedule and meets all requirements.
