School Nurse Assistant - Health Room - Sunset Ridge Elementary and MHS

The Health Assistant provides a critical role within the building to support the health needs of our student population, allowing them to best participate in the learning environment in a safe and healthy way. This is accomplished through assisting with illness and injuries, dispensing and administering medications, ensuring that individual health care plans are being implemented, and maintaining an efficient health office. They support the School Nurse in many ways such as planning for the health needs of students when on field trips, gathering required medical orders, and communicating with staff and parents about a child’s health.

  • Provides basic urgent and emergency care of illness and injuries within the District’s policies and procedures.
  • Monitors student health status during periods of short-term rest and recovery.
  • Administers medication as directed by medical orders and the policies within the District.
  • Maintains immunization and student health records in the student electronic records system.
  • Manages the flow of students within the school health office.
  • Maintains supply inventory and organization within the school health office.
  • Follows established protocols in cases of emergency situations.
  • Assists the Nurse with school health and communicable disease screening as needed.
  • Works with the Nurse to facilitate continuity of care by communicating with families and school staff.
  • Accurately prepares and manages student medications sent for offsite school activities.

Working Conditions: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and fax/copy machines. This job requires sufficient mobility to access District facilities and to rapidly respond to health situations within and outside of the school building as needed.

Qualifications

Training and Licensure:

  • LPN/LVN preferred and CMA/CNA accepted
  • Current certification in CPR/AED.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is strongly preferred.

  • Strong computer/typing skills.
  • Knowledge of Google Suite.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $23.00 per hour

  • Associate (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Pediatric Nursing: 2 years (Required)
