Scribe - Sports and Orthopedics

Novant Health Southern Orthopedics & Sports Medicine is looking for a Scribe! This isn't just a data-entry job; it is a front-row seat to specialized medicine. You will work alongside skilled providers, gaining an intimate understanding of patient care, orthopedic surgery, and clinical decision-making.

  • Schedule: Monday - Thursday 7:45am-5pm, Friday 7:45-3pm

Southern Orthopedics & Sports Medicine is a high-volume, specialized practice dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions in the foot, ankle, knee, hip, shoulder, and more. Our team includes board-certified orthopedic surgeons and highly skilled PAs/NPs who utilize the latest in surgical and non-operative techniques to help patients quickly return to their activities. This role is integral to providing a smooth, compassionate patient experience in a fast-paced clinical setting.
What We're Looking For:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, preferred.
  • Experience: Six months customer service environment experience in the medical field, preferred.
  • Additional Skills (required): Working knowledge of medical terminology and technical spelling. Computer aptitude and ability to quickly learn new applications. Communication and organizational skills with focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow. Ability to record information accurately and promptly. Aptitude to learn or have knowledge of exam, diagnostic and treatment procedures and protocols. Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families. Completion of the computer-based learning entitled AMB0742 NHMG Chaperone in the Exam Room if the Scribe will also be serving as a chaperone during sensitive exams.
  • Additional Skills (preferred): Specific medical terminology training, knowledge of basic anatomy, coding and HIPAA familiarity, medical, procedural and diagnosis coding experience.
What You'll Do:
  • As a Medical Scribe, you are the physician's right hand in the exam room. Your primary goal is to increase clinic efficiency and allow providers to focus entirely on the patient.
    • Real-Time Documentation: Accompany providers into patient encounters to document histories, physical exams, and treatment plans directly into the Epic EMR system.
    • Clinical Knowledge: Gain proficiency in orthopedic terminology, anatomy, and common sports injuries (ACL tears, rotator cuff issues, fractures, etc.).
    • Chaperone Duties: Serve as a chaperone during sensitive exams as needed.
