 The General Counsel helps to drive the organization forward. S/he is tasked with protecting the organization from undue legal risk, establish and enforce best practices, review policy and procedures documents and manuals for legal compliance ensuring they are communicated across the organization in addition to educating and training staff on critical areas such as compliance and legislation. S/he not only reduces legal risk but is able to foresee it, articulate it and communicate it upwards to the Board.
