Project Environmental Scientist

<p></p><div><div><p><b>Brief Description about the Project</b></p>
<p>The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is designed to support life during critical illness; however, in patients with advanced or terminal conditions, continued or escalated intensive interventions may offer limited benefit and instead prolong suffering for patients and families.</p>
<p>In India, organ-based protocols and parameter-based interventions in ICUs, along with the pro-life sociocultural expectations, gaps in prognostication communication-skills, defensive medical practices, and ambiguity around medico-legal frameworks, have all contributed to institution of non-beneficial disproportionate treatments in the terminally ill. Although there are guidelines developed jointly by the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine and the Indian Association of Palliative Care, their implementation in routine ICU approach and practices remain inadequate. To address these gaps, the Multifaceted Comprehensive Appropriate Care Package (MCACP) is being developed as a structured, evidence-based framework integrating palliative care principles into ICU workflows.</p>
<p>This study aims to develop and pilot the MCACP in ICU setting to, use timely triggers, refine implementation strategies, identify facilitators and barriers, and assess preliminary outcomes, including quality of dying, family satisfaction, and care de-escalation practices. Focus will be on developing methods for appropriate and timely integration of structured palliative care to maintain care-continuum, and quality of life up to, and including the end-of-life period.</p>

<ul><li>Lead data management and quality control processes for the research projects assigned by the PI.</li>
<li>Prepare and use frameworks such as CFIR (Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research) and NPT (Normalization Process Theory</li>
<li>Conduct qualitative interviews and analyze implementation outcomes.</li>
<li>Facilitate the systematic documentation of intervention fidelity using tools (TIDieR -Template for Intervention Description and Replication), and other questionnaires as a part of research studies.</li>
<li>Oversee the execution of MCACP program, and prepare evaluation reports for the site</li>
<li>Conduct midline and endline analyses to inform programmatic and policy recommendations</li>
<li>Coordinate multi-disciplinary review meetings, and within institution-stakeholders, including patient-family</li>
<li>Contribute to developing suitable methods to ensure proportionate care</li>
<li>Act as an independent assessor to ensure objectivity and rigor in evaluating implementation fidelity, ethical compliance, and the contextual adaptability of the MCACP intervention. The complexity and multidimensional nature of this implementation research necessitate having an independent evaluator at each site who is separate from the implementing team.</li>
<li>Collaborate with the central research team and technical partners to incorporate local findings into cross-site synthesis towards development of a technical resource hub.</li>
<li>Play a frontline role in delivering interventions at ICU sites, and beyond, ensuring care-continuum for the patient.
</li><li>Contribute to conducting staff-training</li>
<li>Monitor fidelity, supervise, enforce research rigor, and maintain quality assurance across the clinical and operational dimensions of the project</li>
<li>Major role in drafting, reviewing, revising the manuscripts ensuing out of the institution-based research projects, until publication.</li>
