Position Overview
The Seasonal Art Camp Assistant supports the Lead Art Camp Instructor during Bloomfield Arts & Crafts Studio’s summer camp program. This role is ideal for high school students (16+) or recent graduates who enjoy working with children and have foundational art skills.
The Assistant helps facilitate daily art activities, support classroom management, prepare materials, and maintain a positive, structured camp environment.
This is a temporary, seasonal position that concludes at the end of the summer camp program.
Core ResponsibilitiesCamper Support & Creative Reinforcement
- Assist the Lead Instructor with daily art projects for campers ages 5 and up
- Provide one-on-one support during painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, and craft activities
- Help younger campers follow instructions and stay engaged
- Encourage creativity, confidence, and positive participation
- Reinforce instructions and expectations set by the Lead Instructor
Classroom Management & Safety
- Help supervise campers during activities, transitions, and breaks
- Support enforcement of camp rules and behavior expectations
- Ensure safe handling of art tools and materials
- Alert the Lead Instructor or Camp Lead of any concerns
Studio Setup & Clean-Up
- Prepare art stations and materials before sessions
- Distribute supplies efficiently and safely
- Guide campers through structured clean-up routines
- Maintain organization and cleanliness throughout the studio
Parent & Camper Interaction
- Greet campers and families in a friendly, professional manner
- Support campers who need reassurance or redirection
- Share brief highlights with Lead Instructor when needed
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with Lead Instructors and Camp Leadership
- Attend required training and staff meetings
- Remain flexible and responsive to daily schedule adjustments
- Model professionalism, punctuality, and a positive attitude
Qualifications
- Minimum age: 16 years old
- High school student (Junior/Senior) or recent graduate preferred
- Basic art skills required (painting, drawing, or general crafting)
- Previous experience working with children preferred (babysitting, volunteering, camps, church programs, etc.)
- Patient, responsible, energetic, and safety-conscious
- Able to take direction and work as part of a team
Additional Information
- This position is seasonal and temporary, ending automatically at the conclusion of the summer camp season
- Continued employment beyond the summer season is not guaranteed
- Must be available for required pre-camp training
- Hours vary based on the camp schedule
Pay: $11.00 - $12.00 per hour
