SEN & EAL Specialist

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated SEN & EAL Specialist to join our small, dynamic school community. This role is pivotal in ensuring that students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and those for whom English is an Additional Language (EAL) receive the support they need to thrive academically and socially.

The successful candidate will work in parallel with the School Counsellor in terms of seniority, forming part of a collaborative inclusion team. While the Counsellor leads on wellbeing and safeguarding, the SEN & EAL Specialist will take the lead on instructional support for SEN and EAL students, including planning, delivering interventions, and coordinating Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).

Given the small size of the school and the evolving student profile, flexibility is essential. The scope of this role may adapt over time, particularly if the number or complexity of SEN cases increases. In such scenarios, this position may assume greater leadership responsibilities for SEN provision.

Key Responsibilities

  • SEN Leadership & Support:

  • Design and implement IEPs for students with SEN.

  • Provide targeted interventions and classroom accommodations.

  • Monitor progress and adjust strategies to ensure inclusion and success.

  • EAL Support:

  • Plan and deliver tailored support for students with English as an Additional Language.

  • Collaborate with teachers to embed language development strategies across the curriculum.

  • Collaboration & Teamwork:

  • Work closely with the School Counsellor, teachers, and parents to ensure holistic support.

  • Contribute to joint case reviews and multidisciplinary planning.

  • Professional Development & Compliance:

  • Stay current with best practices in SEN and EAL education.

  • Maintain accurate records and participate in meetings and training.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential:

  • Relevant degree in Education or a related field.

  • Formal qualifications and proven experience in SEN support.

  • Highly Valued:

  • Experience and/or certifications in EAL instruction.

  • Knowledge of inclusive pedagogy and differentiated learning strategies.

Reporting Line

  • Reports directly to the Head of School.

  • Works in parallel with the School Counsellor as part of the inclusion team.

  • SEN leadership responsibilities may evolve based on the student profile and the relative qualifications and experience of the inclusion team members.

  • Salary is based on relevant qualifications and experience. Accommodation is also provided as an additional benefit and included for staff at no additional cost.
