Newtek One is looking to add a Senior Accountant to the team!
The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing key accounting functions, including daily cash reconciliations, vendor invoice processing, and the monthly general ledger close. This role supports multiple subsidiaries and ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, including balance sheet and income statement analysis, intercompany transactions, and account reconciliations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across departments.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Maintain and record business transactions for designated electronic payment processing entities.
- Perform daily cash reconciliations and ensure accurate and timely bank reconciliation at period close.
- Manage employee expense reports, ensuring accurate recording and timely submission to payroll for reimbursement.
- Review and reconcile inventory reporting, including shipping and receiving analysis.
- Execute monthly close processes, including preparation and posting of journal entries (pre-close and post-close).
- Perform reconciliations and analysis related to billing systems, fixed assets, inventory, and depreciation.
- Record transactions related to cash, intercompany accounts, inventory, and convenience fees.
- Review all intercompany transactions, generate invoices as needed, and process month-end settlements.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies in financial records, general ledger accounts, and reports.
- Oversee accounts payable approvals and ensure weekly processing is reviewed and approved by management.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and documentation of accounting processes and procedures.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, including account reconciliations and reporting.
- Monitor company credit card usage and ensure transactions are properly authorized, documented, and recorded.
- Review and approve expense documentation for vendors, employees, agents, and intercompany transactions.
- Collaborate with the Accounting Manager and team to deliver accurate and timely financial statements.
- Provide daily cash reporting to senior management and optimize cash positioning, including fund transfers to maximize returns.
- Process and record transactions related to receivables, payables, disbursements, accruals, and general ledger activity.
- Execute ACH and wire transactions for cash management, residual payments, billing, and other obligations.
- Process credit card billing for agents and customers as required.
- Prepare detailed balance sheet reconciliations and analytics, including AR/AP aging, prepaid expenses, and accrued liabilities.
- Maintain schedules for commission income and other key accounts.
- Analyze financial statements and escalate any discrepancies or risks to management.
- Coordinate with internal teams (finance, settlement, risk, relationship management) to ensure accurate reporting and task completion.
- Liaise with external vendors to obtain required financial data and documentation.
- Provide backup support and assistance to other accounting team members as needed.
- Assist with external audits by preparing documentation and providing insights.
- Evaluate and improve accounting processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Support SOX compliance efforts and assist in SEC reporting requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Minimum of three (3) years experience in accounting.
- Experience and working knowledge of GAAP.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel experience
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast paces environment
- Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision to accomplish objectives
- NetSuite experience a plus
- wDesk experience a plus
- Strong communication and problem solving skills
EducationCertification Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics
Salary Range: $75,000 to $95,000 per year
