SENIOR ACCOUNTANT
The purpose of this role is to support the daily operation of the accounting department. This position plays an important role in the overall accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness of the accounting functions, including General Ledger, AR, AP, Inventory, month-end closing, report preparation, and audit preparation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (approx. time spent annually)
- Reconcile general ledger accounts for all entities, including prepaid, accrual, and loan accounts (15%)
- Assist in leading, training, and developing accounting staff (2.0%)
- Assist in preparation of monthly consolidated financial reports (2.0%)
- Assist in preparing for annual audits, exams and taxes (2.0%)
- Work with Controller, IT, and all departmental teams to develop analysis and reporting tools with a focus on continuous improvement of processes in all departments (2.0%)
- Work closely with department teams to support inventory management at all locations including reporting, analysis and reconciliations of aged inventory (2.0%)
- Assist in developing and maintaining internal controls, improve processes and procedures (2.0%)
- Work with Controller and Production teams to develop departmental budgets and benchmarks (2.0%)
- Support accounting staff to maintain timely, accurate transactional processing:
- Accounts Receivable: Process AR invoices daily from shipped sales orders (15%), Process AR credit and debit memos in a timely and accurate manner (2.5%), Process cash receipts daily (5%), Respond to customer credit reference requests in a timely manner (2.5%), Process customer credit applications, including reference checks and setting up customer records in accounting software (2.0%), Monitor and reconcile accounts receivable for accuracy (2.0%)
- Accounts Payable: Process AP transactions in Great Plains using various import software tools (15%), Monitor AP email/ mail, scan and electronically file and update SharePoint for invoices daily (5%), Process AP payments (checks/ ACH) daily (5%), Handle vendor correspondence and inquiries via phone or email (5%), Monitor and reconcile accounts payable for accuracy (2.0%)
- Banking (daily): Reconcile bank accounts and credit line (10%)
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and maintain standard operating procedures for accounting functions
- Audit and update accounting standard operating procedures
- Gain a full and thorough understanding of the accounting roles, functions and tasks of the accounting department
- Assist with implementation of software and reporting tools used to control, track and document production and operations activities
- Assist with development of data tracking and analysis for production and operations activities
- Cross-train in all accounting functions, as well as other departments
- Assist with development of processes throughout the organization to improve systems
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred
- 7+ years progressive accounting experience
- Experience in cost accounting preferred
- Excellent communication skills: ability to express ideas clearly in both written and oral communications
- Strong Excel skills (experience with pivot tables and power query a plus)
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- High attention to detail
- Power BI skills preferred
- Experience working with SQL databases preferred
- Effective leadership skills, modeling a collaborative mindset
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment, as well as independently
- Lumber and/or manufacturing background preferred
