Senior Accountant – Construction & Real Estate Development
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support the financial operations of our construction, real estate development, and property management portfolio. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in development accounting, construction job costing, and real estate financial reporting.
This position plays a key role in managing project-level financials, construction draws, property performance reporting, and investor reporting across multiple development and real estate assets. The Senior Accountant will work closely with project managers, property managers, and leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, cost tracking, and strategic financial planning.
Responsibilities
Construction & Development Accounting
- Maintain construction job cost accounting across multiple development projects.
- Track project budgets, change orders, and cost allocations to ensure accurate project financial reporting.
- Monitor project profitability and cost variance throughout development phases.
- Manage construction loan draw requests, supporting documentation, and lender reporting.
- Coordinate with project managers to review cost projections and budget updates.
- Track capital expenditures and development costs for proper accounting treatment.
Real Estate Portfolio Accounting
- Prepare financial reporting for real estate assets, including rental income, operating expenses, and capital improvements.
- Maintain accounting for multiple properties and development entities.
- Assist with property performance analysis and portfolio-level reporting.
- Track tenant income, operating costs, and reserve accounts where applicable.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Perform general ledger maintenance, account reconciliation, and balance sheet analysis.
- Assist with year-end close, tax preparation support, and external audits.
- Maintain depreciation schedules and fixed asset tracking for real estate and construction assets.
- Support cost segregation analysis and capital improvement tracking when applicable.
Cash Management & Financial Planning
- Manage cash flow forecasting for development projects and property operations.
- Track construction financing, lender covenants, and debt schedules.
- Assist in development pro-formas, financial modeling, and investment analysis.
- Prepare reports for ownership, lenders, and investors regarding project and portfolio performance.
Systems & Collaboration
- Utilize accounting systems such as QuickBooks, Sage, or construction/property management software.
- Work closely with construction managers, property managers, and executive leadership to maintain financial transparency.
- Assist in improving internal accounting controls and reporting processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
- 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably within construction, real estate development, or property management.
- Strong knowledge of construction job costing and development accounting.
- Experience with construction loan draws and lender reporting.
- Understanding of real estate financial statements, depreciation, and capital expenditure tracking.
- Familiarity with real estate investment structures and investor reporting preferred.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar systems.
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, properties, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with real estate developers, general contractors, or property management firms.
- Familiarity with real estate tax structures, depreciation schedules, and cost segregation strategies.
- Experience with construction budgeting, development pro-formas, and project forecasting.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
