Senior Architect

Doha, Qatar

Key Accountabilities:

Role Purpose: Senior Architect to lead and support architectural conservation projects. And will be responsible for overseeing the documentation, analysis, planning, and implementation of conservation interventions for historic structures and culturally significant sites. The role requires a deep understanding of traditional construction techniques, conservation ethics, international charters, and relevant regulatory frameworks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, documentation, and supervision of conservation, restoration, rehabilitation, and adaptive reuse projects.
  • Conduct historic building assessments, including archival research, condition surveys, material analysis.
  • Prepare Conservation Management Plans, feasibility studies, and detailed project proposals.
  • Develop and review technical drawings, specifications, and intervention strategies for heritage structures.
  • Ensure that all conservation work aligns with international charters (e.g., Venice Charter, Burra Charter), local heritage regulations, and UNESCO guidelines where applicable.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including structural engineers, MEP engineers, archaeologists, historians, and skilled craftsmen.
  • Monitor onsite construction activities and ensure authenticity and quality in execution.
  • Represent the department in meetings with heritage authorities, and stakeholders.
  • Stay updated on best practices, materials, and technologies related to heritage conservation.
  • Adapting plans according to circumstances and resolving any problems that may arise during work execution.

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • High levels of creativity, imagination and vision.
  • A keen interest in the built environment and the dedication to see projects to their conclusion.
  • Willingness to work long hours, under time and budget pressure.
  • Excellent design and drafting skills and proficiency with computeraided design (CAD), 2D and 3D, Google Sketch up or 3Ds Max, Revit & strong mathematical skills.
  • Excellent communication and reportwriting skills.
  • Strong project management and coordination abilities.
  • Commitment to ethical conservation practices and cultural sensitivity.
  • Strong understanding of traditional building materials and techniques, conservation-grade materials, and repair methods.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture.
  • Certificates in Architectural Conservation, Historic Preservation, or related field (advantages).
  • 5 7 years’ experience.
