Senior Associate Researcher - Hematology & Medical Oncology

Description

The Senior Associate Researcher will conduct research activities in collaboration with internal/external scientists/technicians and Post Docs to complete scientific-based project within the Division of Hematology/Medical Oncology. The laboratory focuses on stem cell biology of patients with myeloproliferative disorders.

The Senior Associate Researcher will independently conduct research experiments to support ongoing projects using advanced techniques, analyze and interpret highly complex results, and review and present data for publication and/or presentation. He/she will also assist postdoctoral fellows and students within the lab with their ongoing projects. The Senior Associate Researcher will report directly to the Principal Investigator (PI) of the program.


Responsibilities
  • Conducts a variety of research experiments using advanced research techniques; performing basic molecular and cellular biology methods including tissue culture as well as biochemistry techniques such as cytotoxicity assays, PCR, Western Blot and analysis of samples through flow cytometry. Must be able to read and understand scientific data being applied to conduct the research.
  • Coordinates project activities to meet deadlines.
  • Collaborates with the Principal Investigator in the development of new experiments and research techniques. Incumbents are expected to stay apprised of the literature as well as practical skill sets relevant to the field.
  • Assists in the implementation of standardized protocols for experiments and training purposes; create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) specific for each study.
  • Assists the Principal Investigator with publications by extracting and compiling moderate to complex research data (i.e. related to oncology, immunology, microbiology, etc); assisting in interpreting the data; reviewing and editing articles used in scientific publication. Must have strong science background.
  • Mentors and trains less experienced research staff and graduate students in research techniques and use of equipment.
  • Ensures compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain the laboratory environment, including inventory management and ordering of supplies.
  • Performs other related duties

Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in sciences or related field. Masters Degree in sciences or related field preferred.
  • 5 years in a research environment
  • Science background required
  • Experience in a research environment; extensive experience/expertise in basic molecular and cellular biology methods including DNA and RNA isolation, siRNA methods, construct engineering, tissue culture and preparation and analysis of samples through flow cytometry
  • Previous experience with biochemistry techniques including Western blots and immuno-precipitations among others.
  • Extensive experience in in vivo experimentation, including mouse handling, sample collection and processing (bone marrow, spleen, blood), engraftment of human tumors in mice, and administration techniques such as intravenous, intraperitoneal, and oral gavage.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Effective teamwork as well as motivational supervision of others.
  • Reading and analytical skills; medical knowledge required.

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $61999 - $106391.91 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
