Job Summary:

The Senior Buyer is responsible for leading procurement activities, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring the availability of materials, equipment, and services for manufacturing operations. This role involves strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, cost reduction initiatives, and supply chain optimization. The Senior Buyer works closely with internal teams, including production, inventory management, and logistics, to improve purchasing efficiency and supplier performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Procurement & Supplier Management

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies to support operational and financial goals.
  • Identify, evaluate, and maintain relationships with key suppliers to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with suppliers to secure favorable agreements.
  • Monitor and assess supplier performance, addressing issues related to quality, lead times, and service levels.
  • Conduct market research and risk assessments to identify alternative suppliers and mitigate supply chain disruptions.

Purchasing & Inventory Control

  • Oversee the procurement of raw materials, components, equipment, and services to support production schedules.
  • Work closely with inventory and production teams to maintain optimal stock levels and prevent shortages or excess.
  • Analyze material demand forecasts and place purchase orders accordingly.
  • Ensure on-time delivery of critical materials while minimizing inventory carrying costs.

Cost Management & Process Optimization

  • Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or operational efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities for vendor consolidation, bulk purchasing, and process improvements.
  • Monitor key procurement KPIs such as cost savings, supplier performance, and lead times.
  • Optimize ERP/MRP purchasing systems for efficiency and accuracy.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies, legal requirements, and industry standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, pricing, and supplier audits.
  • Provide reports and analysis on spending trends, cost reductions, and supplier performance.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field (preferred).

Experience and/or Training:

  • 5+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of contract negotiation, supplier management, and cost analysis.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, capacity planning, and inventory control.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel)
  • Excellent math skills (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, percentages, fractions, etc.)
  • Basic computer skills (email, typing, data entry, etc.)

Travel: This position requires an estimated 20% annual travel between local offices. The travel will primarily involve visiting other local facilities to collaborate with different teams and support projects across our multiple, local locations and the entire organization. 20% = 1 day/week

Working Environment

Work is performed in a general office environment with limited noise exposure and usually moderate. Noise may be loud when frequenting the production floor. Additionally, there will be occasional exposure to dust, metal debris, changes in ambient temperature, and requires the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

PAY AND COMPENSATION:

Compensation: $78K- $115k
