Position Summary...

What you'll do...

Walmart’s Associate Experience Platform team is seeking a talented Senior Data Scientist to help expand our GenAI Experience Platform. You will be helping the team to develop and deploy Generative AI solutions to boost associate productivity day-to-day, as well as providing platform capabilities for internal teams to build their own Generative AI agents and experiences. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to one of Walmart’s four Super Agents initiatives, creating real business impact while growing your career in a high-visibility domain.

In this role, you will be building an LLM-powered intelligent experience, inside chatbot or business application, to improve employee experience and productivity. You'll be responsible for designing and building an intelligent conversational interface that enhances communication, automates tasks, accesses data and insights, and provides personalized Q&A support to employees, ultimately creating a more efficient and engaging work environment.

What you'll do:

  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, engineers, and product managers.

  • Design, build, and evaluate machine learning models and pipelines that power conversational AI and enterprise productivity use cases.

  • Implement robust evaluation frameworks for AI/ML solutions, including A/B testing and statistical validation.

  • Partner with ML engineers to deploy, monitor, and optimize models in production.

  • Analyze user telemetry and feedback loops to drive product improvements.

  • Contribute to the growth of the team by mentoring junior DS and sharing best practices.

  • Stay current with industry trends in GenAI and data science, applying new techniques where appropriate.


What you'll bring:

Must-Have

  • Technical Stack Proficiency

    • Advanced programming in Python, proficiency in SQL for data extraction/manipulation

    • Experience with big data tools (e.g., Spark, Hadoop)

    • Proficiency with cloud environments (GCP, Azure, or AWS)

  • Modeling Expertise

    • Strong foundation in machine learning (supervised, unsupervised, model selection, evaluation)

    • Proficiency in statistics, hypothesis testing, and experimental design

    • Experience with deep learning, NLP, time series, or optimization techniques

  • Platform Experience

    • Hands-on MLOps skills (deploying, monitoring, maintaining models in production)

  • Business Acumen & Communication

    • Ability to translate complex analyses into business insights for non-technical partners

  • Collaboration & Leadership

    • Experience working with cross-functional engineering and product teams

    • Ability to mentor junior DS and contribute to team growth

Nice-to-Have

  • Prior hands-on experience with Generative AI (e.g., RAG pipelines, AI agents, MCP)

  • Familiarity with LLM evaluation frameworks (e.g., RAGAS)

  • Knowledge of LangChain / LangGraph for building natural language interfaces

  • Understanding of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) with vector databases such as Milvus or FAISS

  • Awareness of GenAI industry trends and products; strong learning agility and growth mindset

  • Experience building trustworthy AI systems, including fairness, interpretability, and responsible AI practices

  • Market Awareness: keen understanding of existing GenAI products and industry trends

  • Growth Mindset: strong willingness to continuously learn, adapt, and explore emerging technologies to drive innovation

Live Better U is a Walmart-paid education benefit program for full-time and part-time associates in Walmart and Sam's Club facilities. The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00-$180,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Option 3 - 5 years' experience in an analytics or related field.
