Senior Design Engineer (Mechanical)

Job Summary

The Senior Design Engineer will lead the development, modification, and optimization of engineering designs for products and systems, ensuring they meet functional, safety, and quality standards. The role involves advanced use of CAD tools, project leadership, mentoring, and supporting the transition from design to manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

· Develop detailed 2D and 3D models, drawings, and specifications using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.).

· Collaborate with production, quality, and R&D teams to ensure manufacturability and cost-effectiveness of designs.

· Interpret customer requirements and convert them into innovative engineering solutions.

· Participate in brainstorming sessions and design reviews to refine concepts and prototypes.

· Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including BOMs, drawings, and technical reports.

· Conduct design validation, prototyping, and testing to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.

· Support the manufacturing team during product development, troubleshooting, and process improvements.

· Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.

· Continuously research new materials, technologies, and design methodologies to enhance product performance.

· Provide technical support to sales, marketing, and customer service teams as needed.

Additional Responsibilities for Senior Role

· Lead and mentor a team of junior design engineers and draftsmen, providing technical guidance and support.

· Oversee multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.

· Review and approve engineering drawings, models, and documentation prepared by the team.

· Coordinate with cross-functional teams (production, quality, R&D, procurement) to resolve complex design and manufacturing challenges.

· Drive innovation by introducing new design methodologies, materials, and technologies to improve product performance and cost-effectiveness.

· Manage design change requests, engineering change orders (ECOs), and ensure proper documentation and communication.

· Support the development and implementation of best practices, design standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.

· Participate in strategic planning for new product development and contribute to the company’s technology roadmap.

· Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, certifications, and regulatory requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field (mandatory).

Experience: 5+ years in design engineering, preferably in a manufacturing or heavy engineering environment.

· Technical Skills:

· Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.).

· Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.

· Ability to interpret and create engineering drawings and technical documentation.

· Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability.

· Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM) tools is an advantage.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹500,000.00 - ₹700,000.00 per year
