Senior Desktop Support Specialist and Network Administrator
IMPORTANT: We are only considering applicants who reside within a reasonable commuting distance of our Troy, Michigan office and are able to work a hybrid schedule three days in-office and two days remote. Additionally, applicants must not require, now or in the future, work sponsorship.
Tokio Marine HCC – Public Risk Group is looking for a motivated IT professional with a strong foundation in desktop technical support and system maintenance who is open to growth opportunities into the data engineering space. This role is ideal for someone who is eager to grow their data engineering skills. You will have the opportunity to work closely with engineers to build, maintain, and optimize data pipelines that support analytics, reporting, and business intelligence across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Provide support to end users for PC, server or mainframe applications, and hardware.
Simulate or recreate user problems to resolve operating difficulties.
Answer questions applying knowledge of software, hardware, and procedures.
Investigate and resolve user software and hardware problems.
Escalate more complex problems to Senior-level.
Recommend system modifications to reduce user problems.
Manage all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, and hubs.
Address incidents and provide resolution without assistance when required.
Review and perform routine server and security audits resulting in an analysis of their conclusion on the audit.
Interact with Corporate network services and applications development to restore service and/or identify and correct core problems.
Manage servers, including e-mail, printing, and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software.
Manage and maintain security components, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems.
Ensure network connectivity of all workstations.
Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
Perform network devices system backups and recovery.
Develop the scheduling of network maintenance and perform network upgrades, and repairs.
Recommend purchasing of all equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
Maintain currency and high level of technical skill in field of expertise.
Contact software and hardware vendors to request manage service regarding product performance issues.
Develop user training materials and train users on software and hardware or recommend outside contractors to provide training.
Position Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements
Minimum five years of experience in desktop or network support.
Exposure to, or knowledge of, ETL frameworks and concepts
Basic understanding of data integration patterns
Familiarity with Cloud compute and storage
Experience with data visualization and/or report building
Possess and have ability to apply knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures
Solid written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
Advanced organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Knowledgeable of industry changes, legal updates, and technical developments related to applicable area of the Company's business to proactively respond to changing business environment
Advanced proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office package (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)
High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
Overtime hours may be required to fulfill job responsibilities
May be required to remain stationary for extended periods of time
May be required to move up to 10 pounds
Work Environment and Schedule
Based in Troy, MI and hybrid work schedule
Typical weekday hours with occasional off-hours maintenance support
