The Senior Director, Technical Services is a senior leadership position responsible for the strategic direction, operational excellence, and delivery of all technical services within the organization. This role oversees Project Engineers, Enterprise Architects, Developers, and the vCIO practice to ensure technical quality, scalability, and innovation across client solutions.
The Senior Director works in close collaboration with Solution Architects, Project Management, Security & Compliance, and Service Delivery to ensure seamless service execution and integration of new technology offerings. This position also plays a critical role in supporting Value-Based Care (VBC) and MIPS-related technology initiatives through automation, data integration, and analytics development, ensuring outcomes that align with client business goals and healthcare compliance standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute the Technical Services roadmap aligned to organizational strategy, operational goals, and client success outcomes.
- Lead and manage diverse technical teams including Project Engineers, Enterprise Architects, Developers, and vCIOs to ensure delivery excellence and innovation.
- Collaborate with Solution Architects to design and introduce new service offerings that enhance client value and operational scalability.
- Partner with internal leadership (Operations, Security & Compliance, Service Delivery, and Project Management) to drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
- Champion a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and professional development across all technical functions.
Technical Execution and Oversight
- Oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of infrastructure, cloud, and application solutions.
- Lead architecture reviews and ensure adherence to design principles, security standards, and best practices.
- Supervise SQL scripting, automation, and data development efforts supporting MIPS and Value-Based Care reporting frameworks.
- Ensure alignment with ITIL 4.0 practices, particularly in Change Enablement, Service Design, and Continual Improvement.
- Drive adoption of automation and DevOps principles to enhance service consistency and time-to-delivery.
vCIO and Client Engagement
- Provide executive oversight of the vCIO practice, ensuring delivery of strategic roadmaps, technology planning, and governance across client portfolios.
- Support client executives in aligning technology initiatives with business objectives, budget, and compliance needs.
- Engage with clients on escalations and strategic initiatives, ensuring proactive communication and problem resolution.
- Collaborate with Account Management and Service Delivery leaders to ensure overall client satisfaction and retention.
Operational and Financial Management
- Manage resource allocation, utilization, and forecasting for technical teams.
- Partner with the Sr. Director, Project Management to ensure project profitability, cost control, and delivery KPIs are achieved.
- Develop, monitor, and report on technical service KPIs including project success rate, client satisfaction, utilization, and innovation metrics.
- Drive standardization, documentation, and automation to increase operational efficiency and reduce delivery risk.
EDUCATION & EXPERTISE
Required
- Bachelor’s in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive IT leadership within a Managed Services Provider (MSP), IT consulting, or enterprise IT environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary technical teams including engineers, architects, developers, and client-facing advisory resources (vCIOs).
- Strong background in infrastructure and cloud technologies, enterprise architecture, and system integrations.
- Proven success managing technical project delivery, ensuring quality, timeliness, and alignment to client expectations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and people management skills with a track record of cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable business strategies.
Preferred
- Master’s in business administration, Information Systems, or Technology Management.
- Experience working in healthcare IT, particularly with MIPS and Value-Based Care data or analytics solutions.
- Background in SQL scripting, automation, or data integration supporting reporting and business intelligence.
- Proven ability to introduce and operate new technology services or offerings in an MSP environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading or supporting a vCIO practice and delivering strategic client roadmaps.
