Senior Draftsman – Job Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and erection drawings for structural steel and architectural metal works.
- Interpret architectural, structural, and engineering drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
- Produce 2D and 3D models using software such as AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, Advance Steel, or SolidWorks.
- Coordinate with structural engineers, project managers, QA/QC, and production teams.
- Prepare material take-offs (MTO), cutting lists, and bill of materials (BOM).
- Ensure all drawings comply with project specifications, industry standards, and local regulations.
- Review and check drawings prepared by junior draftsmen before submission.
- Revise drawings based on consultant comments, site changes, and client requirements.
- Coordinate with the workshop to resolve fabrication issues and provide technical support.
- Maintain proper document control and drawing revision history.
- Attend technical coordination meetings with clients, consultants, and site teams when required.
- Assist in planning fabrication sequences to improve productivity and reduce material waste.
- Ensure drawings are issued according to project schedules and deadlines.
- Support estimation and procurement teams with technical information when required.
- Mentor and train junior draftsmen on drafting standards and company procedures.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication and architectural metal works.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, Advance Steel, or similar CAD software.
- Excellent understanding of steel connections, fabrication methods, and welding details.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of material standards, tolerances, and fabrication processes.
- Strong coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering, or a related field.
- 5–10 years of experience in the metal, steel fabrication, or structural steel industry.
- Experience with UAE/GCC projects is an advantage.
- Familiarity with international standards such as AISC, BS, ASTM, and AWS.
