Senior Electrical Engineer (Substations)

The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead the engineering, execution, and coordination of high-voltage substation EPC projects. This role demands technical expertise, project leadership, stakeholder management, and strong commercial acumen across the full project lifecycle—from concept design to commissioning and handover.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership & Design

  • Lead technical engineering activities for high-voltage (132kV GIS/33KV/11KV) substations and associated systems.
  • Manage design reviews and resolve engineering challenges across disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Ensure engineering outputs align with project specifications, standards, and compliance regulations.

Project Planning & Execution

  • Develop Project Management Plans including execution, procurement, team management, and communications.
  • Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning activities, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Coordinate subcontractor activities and ensure seamless execution at site.

Stakeholder & Client Coordination

  • Participate technical meetings with clients, government bodies, and external agencies.
  • Translate customer requirements into technical solutions and proposals.
  • Negotiate scope variations and align additional work with client expectations and approvals.

Financial Oversight & Procurement

  • Monitor project financials including revenue, profitability, and cash flow targets.
  • Procure materials and services cost-effectively while maintaining compliance with quality and schedule constraints.
  • Lead monthly/biweekly reviews to report progress against financial deliverables.

Risk & Performance Management

  • Identify project risks and opportunities; develop mitigation strategies and improvement plans.
  • Track KPIs across schedule, quality, resources, and cost; initiate corrective actions as needed.

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure contractual obligations are fulfilled from both customer and vendor sides.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the development of internal project management policies and procedures.

Team Development & Mentorship

  • Mentor junior engineers and support their professional development through training and technical guidance.
  • Organize lessons-learned workshops and share institutional knowledge across teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Power & Machines Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in EPC Substation projects (preferably in the UAE)

Desired Experience

  • Proven track record in turnkey execution of 132kV/33kV/11KV substation projects including GIS, MV switchgear, transformers, capacitor banks, protection & control, SCMS, FMS, energy metering, civil and electromechanical works.
  • Strong matrix management, communication, and cultural coordination skills.
  • Proficiency in contract management and reporting tools.
