EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company) is the sole procurer and supplier of water and electricity in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. EWEC drives the planning, forecasting, purchasing, and system despatch services of water and electricity. EWEC fulfils these vital responsibilities through the short-term and long-term balancing of bulk supply and demand for distribution companies and authorities in Abu Dhabi and other Emirates. EWEC is supporting the government of Abu Dhabi and the government of the UAE by enabling the reduction of cost whilst also providing the increased security of supply that comes from a cleaner, larger, and more integrated system.


EWEC is mandated to implement strategic initiatives that will achieve the 60 per cent clean energy target outlined in the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy's (DoE) Clean Energy Strategic Target 2035 for Electricity Production in Abu Dhabi, in addition to enabling the achievement of UAE Water Security Strategy 2036, UAE Energy Strategy by 2050, and the UAE Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative. The Senior EMS Engineer manages the Energy Management System (EMS) operations, ensuring that the system efficiently monitors and controls power grid operations. This role involves developing and refining EMS strategies, conducting system analysis, and implementing improvements to enhance system reliability. The Senior Engineer also provides technical guidance to the EMS team and ensures compliance with industry standards.


Job Specific Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the smooth operation and optimisation of the Energy Management System (EMS) to support real-time power system operations and maintain system reliability
  • Oversee the monitoring, configuration, and maintenance of the EMS, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of EWEC’s dispatch operations and complies with regulatory standards
  • Oversee the monitoring, configuration, and maintenance of the DSA tool, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of EWEC’s dispatch operations and complies with regulatory standards
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather and analyse data necessary for EMS optimisation, ensuring alignment with EWEC’s operational objectives and performance targets
  • Oversee the updating of the network equipment database, ensuring all changes are accurately reflected.
  • Handle applications tuning to improve system performance and adapt to changing network conditions.
  • Lead the analysis of EMS performance data, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing enhancements to optimise system efficiency and responsiveness
  • Coordinate with external stakeholders, including grid operators and regulatory bodies,to ensure the EMS operates in compliance with industry standards and supports broader grid stability
  • Manage the development and implementation of EMS-related projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and meet the required performance criteria
  • Prepare detailed reports on EMS performance, incidents, and maintenance activities, providing actionable insights and recommendations to enhance system operations
  • Execute EMS-related tasks and activities assigned by the PMS Lead, ensuring they are completed efficiently and meet established objectives.
  • Mentor and develop junior EMS engineers, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge needed to support and enhance EMS operations effectively
  • Support the integration of new technologies and best practices into EMS operations, ensuring that EWEC remains at the forefront of industry advancements in energy management
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, processes, and regulatory standards in EMS operations, maintaining a high level of quality and consistency across all activities
  • Oversee the documentation and reporting of EMS activities and performance metrics, ensuring accurate and accessible records are maintained for audits and regulatory compliance
  • Prepare and submit regular operational reports on EMS performance and issues to the PMS Lead for higher-level analysis
  • Manage SCADA applications related to the EMS, ensuring seamless integration, optimal performance, and alignment with operational requirements to support training activities
  • Lead the continuous improvement of EMS operations by identifying and implementing best practices, driving greater system efficiency and reliability
  • Manage the upgrade and maintenance of EMS components and software, ensuring the system remains fully operational and capable of supporting EWEC’s dispatch requirements
  • Provide strategic oversight for the development of new EMS functionalities and enhancements, ensuring they address emerging operational challenges and regulatory changes
  • Ensure the EMS is regularly inspected and tested to confirm its readiness for real-time operations, minimising system downtime and ensuring operational continuity
  • Execute EMS-related tasks and activities as assigned, ensuring they are completed efficiently and meet established objectives



MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Master’s degree in a related field preferred
  • Experience with EMS (Energy Management Systems) required
