Senior GIS Architect – ESRI Utility Network (UN)

Position Summary:
We are seeking a hands-on, architect-level GIS professional with deep technical expertise in ESRI Utility Network (UN) architecture, implementation, and migration. You will lead the end-to-end technical execution of an enterprise GIS transformation effort for electric, water, and wastewater assets using the ESRI platform.
The ideal candidate has experience designing and deploying ArcGIS Utility Network solutions for public utilities and can serve as both a technical strategist and an implementation lead across core ESRI products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, planning, and implementation of the ArcGIS Utility Network for electric, water, and wastewater systems
Conduct data model assessments, develop UN schema configurations, and oversee migration from geometric networks
- Define and enforce network topology rules, subnetwork definitions, and association models
- Administer and optimize ArcGIS Enterprise environment (Portal, Server, Services, GDB)
- Build and maintain ArcGIS Pro tools and scripts for QA, batch edits, or network validation
- Serve as technical liaison with GIS analysts, DBAs, IT, and field operations
- Develop and execute testing protocols for topology, trace workflows, and performance
- Provide architecture documentation, data migration strategies, and go-live support
Required Qualifications:
- 8+ years of professional GIS experience, with 3+ years in Utility Network migration
- Proven experience leading ArcFM to Utility Network conversions
Hands-on expertise in:
- ArcGIS Pro and the Utility Network extension
- ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal, Server, Services)
- Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL enterprise geodatabases
- Network rules, subnetwork configurations, versioning (branch/traditional)
- Python scripting (ArcPy), ModelBuilder, geoprocessing tools
- Experience delivering GIS solutions for electric, water, or wastewater utilities
- Strong communication skills for technical reporting and client interaction
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams
Big Plus (Not Required but Highly Valued):
- Experience configuring ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey123, and mobile offline workflows
- Familiarity with ArcGIS Dashboards, Experience Builder, and StoryMaps
- Integration experience with systems like SCADA, Cityworks, Maximo, or FME
- Knowledge of Esri’s Utility Network tracing services, APIs, and Python SDK
- Experience deploying ArcGIS Enterprise in cloud environments (Azure, AWS)
Certifications (Preferred but not required):
- ESRI ArcGIS Utility Network Specialty
- Esri Enterprise Administration Professional
- GISP (GIS Professional Certification)
