We’re looking for an experienced Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic to manage the maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of a civil construction equipment fleet in Phoenix, Arizona. This role combines hands-on mechanical work with leadership responsibilities, ensuring heavy machinery and fleet vehicles remain reliable for daily construction operations.
The Lead Mechanic will oversee shop activities, supervise a mechanic assistant, and respond to field service calls when equipment requires onsite troubleshooting or repair. This position plays a key role in minimizing equipment downtime, maintaining organized service records, and ensuring the construction fleet operates safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities
- Supervise and guide the mechanic assistant to ensure shop tasks are completed efficiently
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair a variety of heavy construction equipment and diesel-powered machinery
- Perform preventative maintenance services to maintain fleet reliability and reduce equipment downtime
- Respond to field service calls and conduct onsite troubleshooting and equipment repairs when required
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop and yard environment
- Manage parts ordering and track inventory for tools, supplies, and replacement components
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation for all equipment maintenance activities
- Communicate maintenance schedules, repair updates, and equipment issues with supervisors and field crews
- Support fleet management initiatives including equipment acquisition, upgrades, and disposal planning
- Assist with additional operational tasks as needed to support construction team productivity
Requirements
Proven experience maintaining and repairing heavy construction equipment or diesel-powered machinery- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities
- Experience supervising or mentoring mechanics or shop assistants preferred
- Ability to work independently while coordinating tasks with field teams and supervisors
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Clear communication skills for working with construction crews and leadership
- Ability to travel locally for field service calls when needed
- Ability to work full-time onsite in Phoenix, AZ
