Senior Instructor (Project CHAMPS)- Paediatrics & Child Health -MC

Introduction

The Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has ten community-based field sites across Pakistan (including four in Karachi) and focuses on research for betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that cater to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to provide research and technical support to the department faculty in developing grant proposals, initiate research activities, run research projects and collaborate with other departments under the guidance of faculty. You will work in liaison with current researchers on identifying and developing future research and funding initiatives, developing and managing current and future research administration. Specific responsibilities will be to:

  • facilitate research programs under supervision to work on new grants proposal and studies
  • implement research studies/project and coordination with the research office including execution of ERC
  • lead in designing, implementation and analysis of research studies
  • monitor and report protocol deviations, ensure adherence to study protocols and SOPs, and oversee data quality assurance through effective use of technology and monitoring systems
  • recruit, train, mentor, and supervise research and field staff, according to study protocol and SOPS
  • liaise with project staff, hospital teams, and external stakeholders; foster effective communication, collaboration, and coordination to ensure smooth project implementation and site performance
  • regularly go for trainings and refreshers, compile and submit monthly study reports, and communicate progress, challenges, and solutions to higher management
  • assist in developing and conducting educational course and training programs for undergraduate, graduate, and post graduate students at AKU.


Requirements

You should have:

  • MBBS/BDS with 3-4 years of experience in doing research and proof of scholarly output. And additional master’s degree in public health or a related field will be an advantage
  • at least 3 years of post-training work experience preferably within a Research setting
  • excellent project management skills, including the ability to lead a workforce and manage resources effectively
  • excellent interpersonal skills, ability to effectively work independently as well as in teams and establish harmonious working relations at the workplace
  • excellent ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and meet stringent deadlines
  • attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • proficiency in the use of computer applications, particularly MS Office and other relevant software packages for data entry and analysis
  • demonstrated scholarly output in terms of scientific papers, presentations and reports
  • strong quantitative and analytic skills with experience in SPSS, STATA, or R software;
  • proficiency in Microsoft related applications such as Excel, Word, Power Point etc
  • excellent Management skills;
  • the ability to work effectively in teams as well as independently
  • the willingness to travel to field sites as well as internationally if needed
  • the ability to work independently and in team setting
  • the willingness to accept any required additional/new responsibilities when and if required by study team.
