Job Summary
The Senior IT Auditor is responsible for performing thorough audits and evaluating risks in academic or healthcare environments to make certain that IT systems adhere to established regulations and policies. In this role, the auditor examines system controls, uncovers potential risks, enhances governance practices, and verifies that security protocols are maintained. This position demands advanced skills in IT auditing, leading audit projects, and guiding junior team members.
Core Responsibilities

Lead and conduct detailed IT audits, including risk assessments, data security evaluations, and control assessments for the institution's IT environment.

Assists with IT Audit scoping, planning and fieldwork activities, ensuring the timely communication and completion of audit deliverables in accordance with the approved audit plan.

Perform assessments of key IT controls, infrastructure, systems, and operations to ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH, FERPA) and internal policies.

Prepare and present clear, concise audit reports with findings, recommendations, and action plans.

Review and evaluate the effectiveness of security controls and governance practices, identifying vulnerabilities or inefficiencies in the system.

Provide recommendations for improving IT security, risk management, and operational performance.

Lead or assist in preparing for external audits and regulatory reviews, including coordinating with auditors and compliance teams.

Draft audit issues and formal audit reports with limited assistance from audit management.

Conduct post-audit follow-ups to ensure corrective actions are taken and implemented.

Present Audit findings to management with minimal assistance from Lead or Manager.

Utilize data analytics as needed to assess risk and/or complete audit testing.

Mentor and guide junior auditors, helping them develop technical and auditing skills.

Maintain a deep understanding of current IT audit tools, techniques, and industry trends.

Build strong relationships with internal IT teams, department heads, and management to facilitate communication and collaboration on audit projects.

Stay updated on emerging technologies and risks that could affect the institution's IT environment.

Performs all other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in a related field.

Five (5) years of related work experience.

This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications

Certified Information System Auditor (CISA) certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of IT governance frameworks such as COBIT, ITIL, and auditing standards such as ISACA, IIA.

Working Conditions
-
Office Environment. Work performed on concurrent multiple projects under pressure of rigid deadlines and/or time limitations. Some travel required. May require extended hours.
Physical Demands

Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required, only occasionally. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.
This position will work both on campus and remotely in Texas. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
