Role Overview:


The Compliance Counsel will be integral to the newly established Corporate Compliance Organisation, reporting directly to the Chief Compliance Officer and the General Counsel. This role involves providing comprehensive legal advice and governance on global export, customs, and economic sanctions laws and regulations. The position supports the company's overarching compliance goals and addresses a wide array of complex legal and business issues.


Key Responsibilities:


- Offer trade controls and sanctions legal advice tailored to business needs.

- Develop business procedures and provide operational direction for regulatory compliance.

- Identify trade control risks and implement risk management controls.

- Deliver trade controls and sanctions training to business lines and corporate functions.

- Assist in developing compliance procedures to address legal issues.

- Monitor business unit performance for legal compliance.

- Conduct regulatory compliance due diligence for new ventures and acquisitions.

- Counsel on technology development projects.

- Manage projects and integrated project teams.

- Oversee compliance program obligations and interact with governmental agencies.

- Monitor legal and regulatory developments to ensure up-to-date compliance policies.

- Provide oversight during compliance reviews.

- Support global operations with expert compliance counselling.

- Collaborate with the Chief Compliance Officer and other attorneys to address compliance concerns and develop training modules.


Required Skills and Experience:


- Licensed and in good standing with a Law/bar association in the United States or Europe

- Graduated from a well respected International law school.

- Over 10 years of hands-on experience in trade controls and sanctions at a large multinational corporation.

- Direct experience with US and EU export licensing requirements and global trade controls operations.

- Familiarity with trade compliance systems.

- Proven ability to engage business leaders to implement new procedures and legal requirements.

- Willingness to travel internationally.

- Sound judgment and unwavering ethics.
