The Sr. Manager leads the compensation function to strategize, plan, and develop annual compensation programs that are both strategic and market aligned, including the continued evolution of MITRE’s Career Framework. This leader must be innovative, informed on current and emerging practices in the compensation space and be comfortable working within an organization that is developing new approaches to talent management. This leader will partner with the Director, Total Rewards and Wellbeing, and lead a team of compensation subject matter experts to create and update annual compensation budgets and frameworks to align with forward pricing models and business needs. In addition, this individual must be proficient in partnering with HR and Business stakeholders to align compensation and talent management strategy to business strategy. This position is a working Sr. Manager that will design, develop, and communicate innovative strategies and programs in lockstep with HR professionals, while serving as a senior advisor to leadership.
Key Job Responsibilities:

Serve as the Sr. Manager of the Compensation team within the Total Rewards and Wellbeing Center of Excellence, interacting with internal stakeholders to understand and design compensation programs that align with corporate/business strategy.

In partnership with the Director, Total Rewards and Wellbeing, consult as a senior advisor to both HR and Business leaders on best practices and approaches to job evaluation, job descriptions, and organizational design. Provide feedback on the structure of work in the market and influence leaders appropriately.

Partner with Director to structure and recommend MITRE’s compensation philosophy and market pricing strategy for our multi-generational and diverse talent Educate managers and employees on our compensation philosophy and aligned approach to performance and annual increases.

Lead and partner with the compensation team to perform leading edge analytics, tracking labor market movement and correlated program spend throughout annual compensation cycles. Measure performance of compensation programs and program changes to assess desired behaviors, outcomes, and ROI.

Partner with finance team to project, trend, and align compensation budgets and program costs to price impact for sponsors and partners

Manage and support audit and compliance requests with the DCAA and other agencies, assuring MITRE’s compensation programs are market aligned, strategic, and reasonable. Oversee program compliance needs (FLSA) and auditing functions within State and Federal Legislation, staying up to date and partnering with payroll to manage existing and new pay equity legislation

In partnership with the Principal Communications Consultant, Total Rewards develop multimedia communication materials (e.g. scripts, videos, email communications, FAQs, manager and HR toolkits, training materials, job aids, talking points) related to MITRE’s compensation programs

Lead compensation department through annual work related to the year-end compensation review cycle, promotion process, and updates to job profiles and families within Workday and their related compensation grades

Lead, develop, and build a high performing team, assessing performance and partnering with Director, Wellbeing and Total Rewards on annual pay planning activities

Partner with Director, Total Rewards and Wellbeing to prepare for quarterly compensation and leadership development committee meetings involving review of officer compensation, including interaction with third-party consultants
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, human resources, or a related field.

Minimum of 12 years of experience in Compensation.

Experience leading a team of compensation professionals through annual and strategic programs and processes. Strong compensation program experience.

Strong analytical skills, knowledge of competing labor markets and industry trends.

This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- Demonstrated experience building a modern, flexible companywide job architecture in house.

Proven experience designing total rewards solutions for a highly diversified, matrixed organization with competing priorities and stakeholders.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with business presence and ability to influence at all levels of the organization.

Excellent customer service orientation, adaptable to change, team player and able to handle multiple projects at once to meet tight deadlines.

Confidence and ability to consult with and advise officers and senior leaders, including guiding and interpreting stakeholder assessments.

Experience within Technology, Engineering, Government Contracting, and/or Healthcare industries as a compensation leader.

Experience with Market Pay and/or administering compensation programs in Workday.

Carries out all responsibilities with unquestioned high levels of integrity and ethics.

CCP certification a plus
